Definitely looks like Marner will walk out. I always said it would be up to the core 4 and not the organization to decide whether and when they play for the Leafs.

Props to Tre (and Shanny I guess) for exploring the nuclear option. Whatever happens with Mitch, at least they are not locked into running back the original core 4 as though its the only way this club can win. Standing up to a star players's demands is bold. However a Ranta deal is still loading all your skills and cap room onto a few guys so maybe the individual players are "on the table" per Shanny, but not necessarily the Dubaplan. Either way, it can't hurt the negotiations because up to this point, for the players it was just wait and get paid.

Funny Tre will have walked two superstar wingers to free agency.

Can't wait to see the albatross deals he hands out in an effort to save his ass for trading away our firsts. We will try to "retool" and end up with 4 more Domi's

If they let Marner get away after decimating what was left of our picks and prospects it could get ugly.

I don't like Brad... but enlighten me to what he could've done with Marner considering Marner has a NTC?

Tre didn’t though?
He was handed NMC by shanny/dubas and when he had the job they had already called the players and said they were back.

He literally just asked him to move. That’s not walking a player to ufa

If none of them are superstars and losers without a chance of winning then why even watch?

Why do you tune in at all and post on a hockey forum?

You’re bored obviously and have nothing to do.
Who said none of them are superstars and losers you sure can write but I doubt you can read I said he is not our best player no need to throw a hissy fit bro you not gonna be a leafs fan when he leaves ? If so you might as well get a head start bud

He's going to absolutely rinse us on July 1st

It'll be an ugly negotiation like last time but he wants to be in Toronto

He played a pivotal role in Team Canadas win and the Mem in junior hockey.

He has a track record of winning.

I know everyone likes a scapegoat but this guy is an absolute stud on all sides of the puck, and in spite of playing wing probably plays an overall impact of some of the top centers in the league.
Loool then why does he have to play with a franchise center

Even strength pts/60 in playoffs

Rantanen - 2.726
Draisaitl - 2.952
Nylander - 2.435
Matthews - 2.051
Marner - 1.945

This obviously includes all points, if we did goals….

Who’s the best?

I want everyone to see what you did here.

You changed 5v5 goal differential numbers to ES points. I like your content here and am not trying to be
mean (im sure youll get over it lol) but this is a pure example of realizing you are wrong, avoiding the actual topic with a whatabout and looking a little silly to any neutral observer while hoping to get cheap likes from the cult in here. ES points are not 5v5, do not take D into account and have literally nothing to do with what I said.

Rantanen:
Goals for/60: 3.04
Goals against/60: 2.61

Marner 5v5:
Goals for/60: 3.08
Goals against/60: 1.72

Who has been a better player 5v5 in the playoffs the last 3 years?

It's not that hard a question really. If you are having as hard time with it, take a breather man.

This won't be a popular opinion, but if it took Knies to get Rantanen to an 8-year deal, I think we should have pulled the trigger
It's 100% the right move and should've been done. The only reason they likely didn't is because they think it means Marner would leave, so they lose Knies + Marner to sign Rantanen

If there was a good chance I could keep both Rantanen + Marner I'd flip Knies+++ for Mikko easily. Let Tavares walk and build around Rantanen/Marner/Matthews/Nylander

Knies is a great player but a player of Mikko's talent is someone you have to go for

We're talking about what Marner did 8 months ago here?
Marner has failed in Toronto, totally and utterly. Now he wants to be paid like McDrai when he plays more like Clarke MacArthur come playoff time, his total career is relevant.

ALL of the core could immediately ingratiate themselves with the fans if they just took a paycut and were realistic about their limitations as players. They refuse to do that because they are greedy.

Winners earn their pay checks, but these guys are not only greedy, but they are soft greedy losers. The worst combination.

The Leafs haven't won. The 4 nations was last month, but sure, the Mem Cup was like a decade ago.
And the cup winner on that team is Matthew t we haven’t gotten out of the first round more than once and a lot of our failures marners been at the forefront unable to perform under the pressure

I thought he looked in slow motion out there and wasnt all that great for us. I think we caught him on the down slope and hes only gotten worse since. Great player and leader in his day but did not want him back.

Who knows what he thought though. Anything outside of what he said is speculation......or maybe it’s aliens.....
After he came back from his injury he looked slow. I am good with him not wanting to come back.

I thought Rantanen didn't want to commit to the 12x8 here. He chose Dallas

I'd much rather Knies than Marner, he might top out as a 40-40 guy, BUT the difference is that he'll probably be totally happy with 6-8 million leaving a ton of cap for others AND he's not like Mitch where his game will massively fall off in the playoffs, tbh I see him elevating more than falling off.

Knies+ 5-7 mill>charmin greedy Mitch. Mitch is redundant in Toronto anyways, the other 3 are the same player; soft overpaid skill guys who shrink in the playoffs.
