Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Yet Again

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Do players score more, less, same, in subsequent rounds.

It would be interesting to see if subsequent rounds change these stats.

Matthews and marner have played around 55-57 playoff games, and only 5 have been in the 2nd. round.

Matthews and marner 8 times in the playoffs and 1 past the first round.

McDavid and Draisaitl 6 times in the playoffs and 4 times past the first round.

MacKinnon 8 times in the playoffs and 5 times past the first round.
Rantanen 7 times in the playoffs and 5 times past the first round.

Does scoring get easier in subsequent rounds?

Maybe somewhat because your 1st round opponent always will be a club that has seen a lot of you and that may have known for a while they will be facing you. Lots of fresh game film and lots of analysis of what does and doesn't work so they could come in with a strategy to keep things tight. In later rounds its teams that you only see a couple of times a year and who may have very limited prep time. They may not have seen all the players added to your playoff lineup so more trading chances while the opponents try to figure each other out.

Also those McDavid/Mackinnon clubs weren't starting the post season against Tampa or Boston most of the time. The Leafs have run into an elite team in the 1st round almost every year except 22-23 Tampa who they beat.

Well I didn’t think Montreal or Columbus were very elite

Wouldn't it be awesome if we were watching 2 future additions to Legends row. If Mathews plays his whole career here he could be the 15th and if Mitch stayed it would be pretty coincidental that #16 would be the 16th inductee. But then again maybe more money somewhere else is more important

For sure not, but Price was better then Campbell when he had to be and he ate Mitch and AMs lunch. They took out 1st overall Vegas that year too but I don't give Marner and Matthews a pass for the 1 goal between them choke. And Keefe was still learning the job back then.

Willy also just entered the top 10 in goals scored too. I know the playoff record hasn't been there to say the least, but having these 3 is kinda insane

Willy is the only one of the three who is top ten in both goals and assists, although I expect both Matty and Mitch to get there soon. Matty needs ~40 assists and Mitch needs ~50 goals.

On pace for 25 goals and 77 assists. Anybody who thinks that production is worth more than an overpaid Matthews and an overpaid 40-45 goal scorer is dilutional. Overpaying this playoff loser again because we overpaid the other playoff losers is so wrong IMO. PPG (5 g) the last 20 games.

You aren't looking at it from the MLSE lens. Big names sell and get attention winor lose. Keep the names keep the hope train alive and running. Keep the plan the parade crowd hungry etc.

With the Panthers acquiring $7m Jones, one or both of Bennett and Ekblad will likely be available July 1. If the Canes are not able to sign Ranta, he will be available. Do not sign MM or JT unless they soften big time before July 1 if you are not in it to sell jerseys.

Proof that Keefe and Fubas were the wrong choice

According to Kypreos:
"The fact is, Marner's no-movement clause makes this situation rather easy to understand. After many failed spring playoff attempts, only a deep post-season run can give management a shot at re-signing him this off-season. Another early playoff exit and Marner is as good as gone."

Which is a really bold statement and he claim any of this is coming from any source, so unclear if this is just an opinion or he's heard something. I would lean to the latter because Kypreos has been in this market long enough to know that a comment like this will gain traction quickly ... Like in this thread for starters.

Also I'm not sure by reading that if he's implying Marner will refuse to re-sign if the Leafs get ousted quickly and/or if the Leafs will simply decide not to extend him?
