Both Tkatchuks were playing through injury. Matthew Tkatchuk played around 5 mins only. Not sure if Matthews is fully recovered from any of his numerous injuries this year. Brady Tkatchuk admitted during first intermission that he was playing with an injury and said he wouldn't miss the game for the world.
Matthew Tkachuk was selfish and hurts his team by playing last night. He has an injury ( groin is my guess) and should have let someone else play in his place.

He has played there before. Gotta goal I think.
Is it travel? Tickets?
Weather…

Shhhhhhhhhhhh ... your silence is all we need.... and not true.

The only thing this game proved was how inconsistent Mitch Marner is in big series. It makes it perfectly clear that we should not sign him or cave into his overpay demands and rather take the sane and rational non knee jerk approach. That means watching him close in the playoffs to see if he can actually have success for once in his adult life, outside a one off oddball tournament that excluded half the best European players.

The cheer for Canada winning and rara support for his contribution to the win understandable.

The war against MLSE catastrophic errors wages on. Another day another hurdle.

Eliminations games. More

He is a POS because he and his agent are playing a snakes game. Show me when he took accountability for losses.

He fought for that overpay and the hostage holding in the last year with a literal idiot GM in Dubas. Took advantage.

Wrong message in sports. Maybe baby doesn't cut it. So I am going to carry my drama into the playoffs. Got it.

Another 20m for JT and Mitch? There is no discussion. Not winning.

Crazy stuff.
The funny part is you believe that they can do it otherwise.
Reality is we won't feild a better team for 40 plus years. Lol
So if they can't no one will be able to for along time.

Marner having himself a helluva year.

Sitting 4th in points and the most clutch player on an all world championship team. Cant wait to hit the playoffs with Stolarz, Tanev and the other new additions (and please be healthy this time)

Hope we can lock him up soon, he's the engine of the team and in his prime.

You guys are ridiculous, its laughable you are trying to spin a demotion to a 3rd line as a good thing. It's mind boggling stuff.
Tbh, you and arso are so far behind in this demoted / promoted conversation that I figured it would take too much of my time to explain what I meant so I just ignored it but here we are 3 pages later and you guys still never caught on.

You guys need to go back and re-read, of course I know a demotion is bad lol...

Only MLSE can save us and themselves from having a 50+ year loser organization. The positive in this is his stock went up, but why do we need to give an NMC if we overpay.

All of of my criticisms with this league and team disappear with the NMC being removed. It should not be allowed in any sport period. It's bad for the sport.

And buyout should not go against your cap! A buyout is a buyout.

You listen to whatever excuse you want we watched it we know why like you expect the coach to trash his players?

Okay so the fact he had no chemistry with the number 1 center he was demoted is that a better way to say exactly what I already said your giving reason as to why and that’s fine but it’s lol doesn’t change the result

Why didn’t he stay on macs line?

he played what, 1 period on mackinnon line and overal the crosby-mac-Stone had been the line with most constancy of Canada... no real reason to split that line

and that's changing absokutly nothing...whatever where they was playing or with who, at the end the only thing people remember is how you deliver when it's needed. That's what leafs fan want to see rom core, who will stand up at the most critical time and both of Marner and Matthews responded last night. That's the most encouraging thing we could see from this tournament in my mind. Both of Marner/ Matthews had been best non-goalie player from their team in that final game.

No, I am the one who said ice time is usually a great indicator of play. Besides, the "demotion" was against Finland. They have played a game since. One where Marner started on the third line and finished on the top line. He also created the GTG and GWG, and showed his detractors that he can excel in big games.
He created? He did make the pass...biggest contributor to the goal though?

Mcdavid won the faceoff, took the initial shot, then found the open space in the slot, and sniped the puck top corner. The entire broadcast team kept talking about how that was Mcdavids goal and how it was a perfect shot.

Makar made the good play...Marner made a good play, Mcdavid made a series of great plays.

Team Canada needs to send Fox a Starbucks gift card for thr play, he royally messed up. He took the wrong route (behind the net) on the Makar board play to Marner and was still behind the net when Marner picked up thr Makar pass...leaving Matthews to basically cover Marner and Mcdavid. Matthews should've probably just stayed covering the slot but he did a kind of in-between and Mcdavid was open.

Good pass by Marner, he wont miss that pass if given space. I've said this often about Marner, he doesn't miss if he has space.

Red arrow on photos below..what was Fox thinking?

Yup, Marner kicked the puck to his stick and passed it to a wide open McDavid who scored.

Just funny from a guy who just tried for month to blast Marner to don't deliver when pressure and intensity are at their biggest level... He had been Canada best player ( outside Binnington) in the most important game in the most important moment... Key play on tying goal and key play on Winning, flying all over the ice.

But now what's matter is all the other game except the most important game, that's right

Literally McDavids first comments when asked about the goal:

"Mitchy makes a play...thats a great, great play. Its kind of the system, the box and 1 system. The centerman and dman can kind of go....if they can get crossed up, that spot can be open....and Mitchy did a great job of finding it."

I think Mcdavid is saying that this was a offensive system called the box 1. And it can cause the center and D man to get crossed up..in this case Matthews and Fox did. Which can open up a slot shot (which happened) and Marner found it? Am I wrong?

That doesn't mean Marner created it...that means the line executed a box 1 and it worked to a T. Makar executed it...Mcdavid executed it... Marner executed it.

Marner didn't "create" it. As the poster I responded to said. He literally went to a set spot and made a set play.

Your right I did show screenshots of the box 1 "system". You said Marner "created the goal". Mcdavid literally said this was a set offensive play, called the box 1, that worked to perfection lol. Marner didn't create it..he, Makar and Mcdavid executed a set play lol.

You just don't quite understand.

No you clearly don't. O Systems are run for players to execute in order to open up set plays. According to McDavid..the box 1 is a play that can cause the opponents D and C to get crossed. In this case they (Matthews and Fox) got royally crossed.. Fox was still behind the net when Marner received the pass from Makar. Mcdavid said, this opens up a slot shot... and it did. Which allowed him to wire it top shelf.

He had a good Finals, he deserves some credit.

I would still let him walk at the end of the year. If they do sign him, they cannot give a no trade clause, it's that simple. To me, no trade clauses should be reserved for winners. Legends of the game, usually when past their prime, or, after a Cup winning season.

In all of the NHL, I'd give one to Crosby, Ovie maybe a couple of others but it would be a very short list.

No you clearly don't. Set plays mean players all need to take part in the set play lol.

Now, I just copied the parts from a previous post where McDavid mentioned Marner. You can scroll up to see the full post.

Marner deserves full credit for delivering in exactly the way he needed to in that final game. Simply out it was a beauty of a pads

Best case scenario he takes this as a well needed confidence boost that 'must win' games are indeed winnable and that he needs to help lead the team during round one this year.

Why do you think Mcdavid decided to throw in the explanation of that it's a system and also provide details that the play is designed to cross up the oppositions D and C?

If we want we could credit Makar for an astounding execution of the box 1, and also for putting just enough velocity on his pass to entice Fox to go behind the net.

Mcdavid for an astounding effort to find the perfect opening in the slot for the box 1 set play. And for the incredible snipe, top corner on one of the leagues best goalies.

"Mcdavid isn't going to say well...what an incredible play by me and what a shot by me too... did you see that shot?"

He was giving credit where credit is due. We can definitely give some credit to Makar. Why not? Though this thread is about Marner in particular.

Still do not want Marner back next season. Try to trade him for anything. Who cares, just get something for him. Get him out of here.
