You made it seem like he went from top line to second line you guys have a problem with honesty huh?it’s not the end of the world to agree he got demoted for weak play and got promoted for great play we literally all saw it (well I heard the promotion) like come on man
They mixed up the lines, he wasn't demoted for weak play. Cooper had ideas, but never in real world application, he was trying to find a balance. I mean he said he loved the third line against Finland, just trying to find a mix that worked. This whole demoted stuff was mostly haters here finding their next narratives. What coach doesn't make adjustments after a loss in a short tourney? There was a logic to idea McJesus' speed game and Marner's stop and start might not work, so try something else. He loves Marner, this idea he fell out of favourable is laughable HF fiction in my view. These guys don't think like that, they aren't fickle and hot takes, methodical hockey minds looking for chemistry.

I don’t think anyone is denying Marner deserved to be moved down in the lineup earlier in the tournament. But it was irrelevant in last nights game, he got promoted and produced.

It comes down to the same argument that’s always made. There’s a double standard for some people when it comes to Marner and no matter what. Is it that hard to just acknowledge he was good in a huge game? There’s no reason to bring up the demotion from two games ago.

I will reserve my judgment about Marner until AFTER the Stanley Cup playoffs. If he disappears again and sucks out because he is not getting the calls..... I'll just wait and see.

Not the end of the world but not true also. McDavid and Marner had no chemistry until they did... it's that simple. Marner set up at least 9 primo scoring chances over the 4 games, sometimes guys like McDavid need to finish on them easy chances.

When I saw that player sneak into the corner behind coverage, I knew the game was over, I knew the Dman was goign to ring the puck around the boards, I knew it was Marner too and I knew the puck was coming to the slot. That had to be a set play off the FO dot.

Craziest part is I believe it was Matthews who went to the corner that Marner beat to the puck

It's funny as well to me we expect instant chemistry with guys who's never played together. It doesn't necessarily work that way, it's a coach on paper moving chess pieces, seeing what works. People miss the fact he thought so highly of Mitch he actually put him with the best player in the game to start. And, Marner was so effective last night, reintroduced him there to spark the greatest player in the game. Throw in a clutch OT winner that everyone here would have choked on, I'd say dude showed up and got shit done.

This place will be back to negativity and bs in two days, it's just a toxic environment. I'm proud of this team and darn proud Marner performed on the biggest stage. If a guy like Brady T says this was the biggest game of his career, with a recent ring, no downer is going to deflate the significance of what it meant.

Marner was already stopped in the corner waiting for the puck. I think it was a set play. He didn’t beat anyone to it as the puck was 50 feet away before it was even passed to him

This was just an epic play when you look at it. Makar rims it, Marner set up in a spot that no player would normally just go to and stop and McDavid floating into the high slot with Point right in the crease to draw the defender in.

Epic play that we will never forget

Overall Mcdavid struggled to created chemistry with every teammate he played with in this tournament. What he did was highlight indivual play. It is a bad thing to try different thing to see whats working the best with mcdavid?

Did marner played his best hockey 1st 3 game, marner didn't played his best hockey in prelimary round but his chemistry with mcdavid wqs not pretty good

I think players were fatigued by yesterday. Its been alot of travel and games.

Mackinnon, Crosby and McDavid were in a league of their own for Team Canada. They play in any type of game, whether it be skill, fast, or physical, and they were always crashing the net and battling for loose pucks. Marner once again was nowhere near the net. Tochett (team canadas a.coach) indicated the line changes were made in game 2 and 3 because the coaches thought they were playing too perimeter. We of course know that Marner was demoted to 3rd line in favor of Point.

Also, Mcdavid wasn't Marners bud (like Matthews) and gave it to Marner on the bench in game 1 and was looking Marner off alot in the final game. The coach, Cooper, wasn't afraid to demote and sit Marner. I think both are key and that Marner needs the tough love.
Lol. No, they weren't fatigued. In fact, Matthews and the Tkachuks were rested against Sweden. McDavid and Marner might be buds. They were working on their chemistry. I fact, Marner asked McDavid where he wanted him to be. They ended up finding great chemistry as seen on the GWG. He may have been demoted, but clearly he worked and battled his way to the top line. It was a big game and Marner was excellent in it.

You listen to whatever excuse you want we watched it we know why like you expect the coach to trash his players?

Okay so the fact he had no chemistry with the number 1 center he was demoted is that a better way to say exactly what I already said your giving reason as to why and that’s fine but it’s lol doesn’t change the result

I agree with that 100% but the reason why it’s mentioned is everyone’s acting like he wasn’t struggling a bit it’s weird but aside from that my friend your absolutely right he was demoted for weak play and promoted for great play it’s still a net positive but some of this chatter is unreal

The fact he was demoted before is concerning. The fact the coach promoted because he thought he had legs is too. Ideally, the coach doesn't demote him, and ideally he doesn't need to "look like he had his legs" as the reason he was promoted.
What do you that means? You haven't understood what the coaches have said throughout the tournament.

Dream line - Marner - McDavid - Knies

A lot of components there that could work very nicely

Obviously a lot has to happen for this occur but if McDavid leaves Edmonton I can’t see him going anywhere else but Toronto

Both Tkatchuks were playing through injury. Matthew Tkatchuk played around 5 mins only. Not sure if Matthews is fully recovered from any of his numerous injuries this year. Brady Tkatchuk admitted during first intermission that he was playing with an injury and said he wouldn't miss the game for the world.

Feels like Marner, much like Point, was being wasted playing with Cirelli and Hagel and Stone had the same problem as Reinhart did on the top line keeping up with the play and eventually Point/McDavid/Marner was the line Cooper was searching for.

Tough to figure out these lines with so little time.

Who's we? A bunch of haters who change the narrative every day? We is who you avoid at parties, that carries zero weight in the real world.

We lost to the Americans, that line wasn't clicking. Mac and Crosby were and you're actually saying Marner should have moved there? That's a serious response? Good first game, meh second game, solid third game, amazing fourth game. I know what I saw, a game winner in a clutch moment with a great cross crease shot, and an incredible game tying play that we desperately needed, then a forever moment to win the tournament. People want to argue he was demoted, it just looks like negativity for its own sake, and yes the coach showed it wasn't words by putting him back with the best player in the world. You align with the clown posse here, I'm fine with reality. Two of our wins don't happen without Marner. Cheers man, I'm done with ankle biting for the day, it's too sunny here for cloudy bias.

You guys are ridiculous, its laughable you are trying to spin a demotion to a 3rd line as a good thing. It's mind boggling stuff.
No, I am the one who said ice time is usually a great indicator of play. Besides, the "demotion" was against Finland. They have played a game since. One where Marner started on the third line and finished on the top line. He also created the GTG and GWG, and showed his detractors that he can excel in big games.

Excuses... you just said they were "rested" because they sat out vs Sweden. They were injured! M.Tkatchuk only played 5 mins because he was injured lol.

Your embarrassing yourself at this point.
They were.
You are projecting your embarrassment on to others.
