Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

I need something to laugh at while waiting for a rebuild. I give the individual fans of players credit, it’s not easy coming up with new material failing in the playoffs year after year. They are the true warriors. If our core pushed as hard we’d be champs.

Which is wild.

Morgan Reilly upset? I could get. But what on Earth could possess Marner to think he has done or shown anything to be captain material?

I suppose Matthews hadn’t really either. But still. Marner!? Talk about a lack of self-awareness
Totally unrelated, but just wanna say started up the wire finally, on season two. Pretty good so far!.. Recognize the user name and avatar 😂.

Exactly. We must not be selfish. Let's allow Marner to share his supreme talent with the rest of the league.
Yes like someone else on this board said (I can’t remember who) we’ve won the Mitch Marner award every year for having the best Mitch Marner. It’s time to pass the belt.

And that belt should be rewarded handsomely, much more so than we could offer.

People often find season 2 to be slow on their first watch - but as you know, it is absolute quality. On a second watch you really appreciate season 2.

Stick with it. Season 3 ands season 4 will solidify it for you as one of the best television shows ever.

I'm actually really liking season 2 so far! No complaints from me.
Ya I heard later seasons are wild . I'm pumped for that

If he signs a massive, short term contract, that the leafs realistically couldn’t match, is it fair to say that it wasn’t the fans, the media, or Tre trying to trade him that brought this about? Ultimately he wanted the best value contract and the other noise is simply bullshit.

I don’t blame Marner for going to Vegas if that is where he lands

He loves the attention and spotlight. He will be their top player and will be involved in the action there being at UFC events etc. imagine the life you can live there with $150 million in the bank

Golfing every day he wants as well

Good weather, low taxes, and a great hockey team that wants to win really bad every year

Also I’m glad to see him go and just wish we traded him when we had the chance.

Apparently he was pissed because Matthews got the “C” instead of him. Personally I don’t think either of them are captain material.
Serious question: who on the team would you consider "captain material", either at the time it was given to Matthews or now?

Didn't Tavares say he was staying and then changed his mind?

marner has never really claimed he was a Leafs and wanted to stay a Leafs' player did he?

Oh, never mind.

AI Overview

Mitch Marner has expressed a desire to remain with the Toronto Maple Leafs, stating it's his "goal" to stay with the team long-term. He has emphasized his love for the city and the organization, noting that he has "grown up here". However, despite these desires, contract negotiations have not progressed, and Marner is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. This leaves the possibility of him leaving open, especially as he has reportedly not engaged in serious contract talks with the Leafs.

Man, I remember shaking my head and laughing when Keefe walked back his criticism:

Something tells me Cassidy's approach won't be so delicate.
Jonas wrote an article and said Marner was the only player from the core 4 that took issue with Keefe's comments, the other 3 didn't have a problem with it.
I believe it was this game or might have been another game.

In all honesty they should have resolved the Marner situation prior to giving the C to Matthews. Tavares potentially leaving would have been the perfect segway. The best thing of been to re sign him and trade him in a few years when we’re ready to rebuild

Why is this in a Marner thread?

The criticism was to Matthews,

But since the media did try to spin it towards Marner I guess it's okay.

But here are the highlight

Here is the Post game

here is the box score and shit

who is missing in the score sheet and in the post game? is it the same person who didn't show up against his home team?

Could you imagine Marner during the Pat Burns era?

Then again, Cassidy won't treat him with kid gloves. If he's never been benched, there's always a first time.
