Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Since you asked:

Before this post I had 19 posts in this thread and 25 outside.

Is that what youd call "living in this thread"?

Is there a way to see who has the most posts in this thread? I wouldn't be surprised if @Antropovsky is near the top so to have them say I'm living in this thread is beyond ironic.

What is so easy to spot?
There you go... denying, deflecting, and misleading again. You're the gift that keeps on giving.

New rumour out that Marner might only sign for 2 years, and then get his big payday when the cap has gone up quite a bit.
It isnt new to anyone whose been following this team since 2019.

Marner wanted a 2-3 year deal in 2019. Nobody would give it to him, so he put his tail between his legs and signed the Dubas deal, which was better than anyone in the League waa willing to do for Marner.

If Dubas was smart, he wouldve let someone else sign Marner to an offersheet and then matched. Wouldve been a much better deal than the one he negotiated.

Could the Vegas Golden Knights or Dallas Stars get involved?

With the bar set so high in Vegas, I don’t expect George McPhee and Kelly McCrimmon to sit idle for long. There is plenty of speculation that they are getting ready to take a big run at Marner. This is where we’ll keep an eye on how expendable William Karlsson is to the Golden Knights. Jack Eichel is firmly in place down the middle for Vegas and commands big dollars already – plus he needs an extension before next summer – so teams see an opportunity to try and get Karlsson and are calling about the player. While Karlsson has been an integral player for Vegas since their expansion season, the lack of centre depth on the free agent market means he could bring back key assets to the Golden Knights while freeing up some much-needed cap space to do other business. If not Karlsson, some attention should be paid to Tomas Hertl, another centre who Vegas could move in the right deal.

Perhaps trading Karlsson and placing Alex Pietrangelo’s $8.8 million AAV on LTIR will be enough to land Marner in a projected $13-14 million range.
There is real concern Pietrangelo’s injury is threatening enough to not only jeopardize his Olympic spot, but perhaps his entire season.

As far as Dallas is concerned, outside of a potential one-year deal for Jamie Benn, all eyes will now be focused on how they will get some fresh new talent to help support Mikko Rantanen. Could they take a serious run at Marner?

That may depend on the decision ownership and GM Jim Nill face on whether to re-sign Jason Robertson or cut him loose now with a trade. Robertson has one year remaining on his four-year $31 million deal signed in 2022.

The early word is the two-time 40-goal scorer may command as much as $12 million in AAV on a long-term deal, which may be too high for Dallas’ liking.

Trading Robertson could lead Dallas right into the mix for Marner.

I’m hearing as much as half the league will try and take a run at Marner in free agency, but the serious bidders will be established well before July 1. However, while the focus around Marner has to do with his free agent status, we can’t rule out the potential for a sign and trade here. For example, going back to Vegas and Karlsson, obtaining a No. 2 centre is as high a priority for Toronto as a top winger replacement for Marner this summer.

no matter where mitch goes i just pray that he scores the goal that keeps the leafs out of the playoffs and that he win's the cup in his first year away from the leafs
Why are you here?

You clearly aren’t a leafs fan if you think this, and only care about 16 so why not follow him on July 1st or 15th to wherever he goes.

Columbus is one team you keep hearing that will surprise with moves this summer. Maybe Mitch goes there as he's still close to home as well.

I can see them as a dark horse candidate.
Marner doesn't want to be close to home. He wants to run away from it lol.

I keep reading this and it's weird. He will fly in private to Muskoka for a few weeks each summer, and GTFO.

I hope they re-sign Marner just to make you guys mad
Leafs re-signing Marner will not make Leaf fans mad it would make them sad. Not anger but sorrow.

We want to win a Cup and that is why the weakest link has got to go.

Marner disappears in the playoffs when his team needs him most. Leafs Nation tired of being ghosted when we need a leader and hero.

In games #5-#7 in a series Marner has recorded in 20 games 0-7-7 points in his career.

The early word is the two-time 40-goal scorer may command as much as $12 million in AAV on a long-term deal, which may be too high for Dallas’ liking.

Trading Robertson could lead Dallas right into the mix for Marner.
If $12 "may be too high" for a "two-time 40-goal scorer" (high of 46), would they rather spend $13+ on a two-time 30-goal scorer (high of 35, 4 years ago), who's also 3 years older?

Wondering if the Robertson rumors is just Dallas putting pressure on him to sign a deal.

Seems counterproductive to trade your 26 year old, 6'3, 210lb 40+ goal, 109 point winger... who had no elite centers and produced 30 points more than the next Star in 2022-2023

for a

For a 28 year old, 6' 180lb 20+ goal, 102 point winger for 13.5 million x3 years, whose spent the better part of the last 4 years with the games 1-3rd best center and has been a playoff bust.
