Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Yes he will. If his offers are 11m max, we pay 13m. Give him a year 1 Limited trade or no trade if you want. Remember 13m we retain on and trade to low tax state is big savings.
I would laugh my butt off if his highest offer was 11mm, but that won’t happen. He’s going sign for 13+ and my guess it’ll be with Pittsburg

Id like to point out Marner had 13 points in 13 playoff games this year. Hardly a poor performance. The only upside I see in letting him walk is having the money he'll command to spend elsewhere. There are some tasty treats available this summer.

Mitch wanting 2 years deal at 12 to prove himself is high risk on his own part and looks even more greedy.

I think we could get him without a NMC and maybe just a limited trade clause. Then we can flip that for assets. It's what I would do. Give home the 1st year NMC and after that we trade

Oh well
Definitely greedy, but not that high risk considering the way he plays, bails out of going into a corner to fight for a puck and all.

Honestly, management should tell him, Paul and Ferris to f*** off and not let the door hit them on the way out. Giving Marner $13M for two years won't improve ours or any other team. He's not worth the money.
He’d be a great fit on a team with top end talent, like Crosby. But his contact needs to be structured such that he has a couple of years with NMC, followed by LTC.

Yeah, but they still lost. Again.

And should I point you to the video of game 7? $11M player and he - like the other $11M+ players on this team - were completely invisible. Again.

I would have thought by now we all would have learned that lesson that pointing out individual stats as an argument for these guys falls inline with exactly how MLSE (and probably Mitch, AM, etc.) apparently feel: As long as the their individual numbers on paper look pretty, they're doing something right.

9 years, 2 playoff series wins.
13 points in 13 games? Great, congrats to mitch. But clearly he (and the other stars) didn't do enough. Again.

For the first time in years I watched all of the playoffs after the Leafs were eliminated. The two best forwards in the league (McDavid and Draisatl) were completely invisible in key games against Florida. Maybe, just maybe Florida is really good at shutting down key players.

I think Vegas will make room for him. It's probably the perfect spot for him. He'll be insulated with winners and will have no pressure but to go out and play.
Eichel is in a contract year too - solid way to encourage him to extend is by getting him a guy who could help him score 35+ goals and augment his already strong defensive play.

It was obvious he needed to be traded.
Before the NMC.

Shanahan was a massive failure
I still believe the real mistake happened when Leafs drafted him and that was only because we had hired former London Knights owner Mark Hunter as our director of scouting,

Even Dubas tried to trade back from #4 to #8 with CBJ in hopes to avoid drafting a small soft winger.
Even though small soft smurfs was all Dubas drafted in all his years as GM. What a waste of all those years drafting all those < 6 foot players..

You know just add Marner to that pile as he walks out the door.

Before Mitch leaves, let's take a look at the last 5 seasons in the postseason Mitch has played.

45 games. 42 points. 77 points per 82. 8 goals. That's 14.5 goals in a 82 game season. This boy basically gives us a singular goal a series on average.

Compare that to Willy.

42 games. 43 points. 84 points per 82. 21 goals. 41 per 82 game season.

Gee I wonder why people think the guy with more points and 3 times the goals is a better player.

I wonder if there is any truth to him signing a 2 year deal in Vegas?

Vegas only has 9.25 in cap space so they would have to unload at least one contract.

2 years might be 11.5.

2 years $13.5M *

Vegas is going to need to clear one more contract.

The Montreal series is what l'll remember most.
Dreadful against Columbus, Florida, Montreal and Boston, couple of decent series vs Tampa where he padded his stats in blowout games, a nice little series against Ottawa (fell off later on though, thankfully Willy stepped up and won it for us before we had a tie series on our hands), and another dreadful series against Florida.

Marner is the first domino to fall in a loser core. They'll all be gone soon enough.
