Marner: "Hold my Beer"

That was before he watched this playoff season. I’m sure Treliving couldn’t believe an nhl player could be as timid as Marner was against Boston, but after this year he has to be convinced.

Cope.

He always scheduled a meeting with him........

You all live in your own reality, Treliving disagrees with you, it is fine.

I signed up to a dating site once.

Talked to this girl for a week or so and we kinda hit it off so I took her out on a date. She wasn't all that good looking but neither am I so whatever. Afterwards she tells me how awesome I am but she wants to keep talking to other guys to see who had the most to offer.

She was so full of herself that when I told her to stuff it she was shocked.

I really hope that conceited arrogant insufferable puke Marner does try to make teams wait. He'll probably end up costing himself some money. Once everyone else has moved on the few teams remaining won't be tripping all over themselves to get him.

It's basic supply and demand economics.

He's gonna be shocked when those teams leftover only offer him a small token increase in salary. Because they don't have as much cap space as they did on the first day of free agency. Nobody is gonna wait two weeks for moneybags to make up his mind before improving their roster.

If he thinks that he's gonna be in for the same rude awakening that girl from plenty of fish got from fat bald ugly old me.

Give me this guys skill with Hymans work ethic and you have the best hockey player in the world

The only regret is we lost him for nothing. They should never allow this to happen again. Asset management needs to be better.

Just to say it, I said all over these forums at the time they should trade him before his NMC kicked in. They had a small window. If I was GM I would have been working the phones to every other GM in the league to see what interest there was. We blew it here and now he will likely leave for nothing. But at $14M+, I say letting him walk is still the right move.

Love him but he's not worth it. You could probably get Bennett and Marchand for that money (if they would come here - probably not).

Mitch Marner is in for a Rude Awakening on July 1st

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, though, if Marner wants to drag out the process of selecting a new team, a few of his preferred destinations may give him a rude awakening.

In his most recent edition of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Friedman suggested that contending teams will not sit around until mid-July waiting for Marner to make a decision. In fact, he flat out stated that contending teams will present Marner with an ultimatum: sign quickly, or miss out on a preferred destination.

"What happens if a team Marner really likes says 'here's our offer on July 1st, and it's on the table until tomorrow, because we can't afford to wait for you to go through a process like this. We have to know, because the answer is you're not coming, we have to race to plan B'. So, that might be the plan, but a few teams said to me that someone is gonna go in there and say 'we're not doing this, here's our offer, you've got X (and it's going to be quick) to take it or leave it'. They guarantee someone is going to go in there and force Marner to make a decision, because teams can't afford to wait."

Marner was originally expected to take his time making his decision, with the time frame of mid-July to select his new NHL team. As it turns out, if he hopes to sign with a contender, the decision may have to be a whole lot quicker than he'd like.
Welcome to the real world, Mitchy!

Marner has a sister? I didn't know that.

I didn't make up anything. Maybe you missed the part .....

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, The link to his article is in the post. :wg:

Friedman believes according to his sources that Marner might not decide until mid July, Then followed that up with getting input from interested teams that will not wait around long. Suggesting Marner might be in for a rude awakening.

Sounds like Marner is creating his own dangerous version of music chairs where he might be missing out the longer he waits to decide, as doors will close as teams move on.
No. Not you.

I dont deny that , but the odds they make something stupid with the money they save, is a safe bet.

We can't remain status-quo b/c of fear of what management might do. Hypothetically, if management gave the money to marner instead of going a different route do you really expect any improvements? I don't!

Change is a thing that is constant in life. Change could be a good or bad thing when it comes to Leafs. But one thing is absolutely certain: remaining status-quo or "run it back again" is most certainly going to yield the same garbage results it has for almost a decade now.

Whats the worst that could happen? Leafs continue to exit in the 1st round (or 2nd round)?

Change is needed and all we can hope is that the change is good and Treliving doesn't F-up. Gotta put in some faith in the GM here when he says we need a DNA change and we all agree that we need a DNA change so let the DNA change happen :)

Offer him $4 million tops. If he produces like a bottom 6 forward in the playoffs, he should be paid like one.
I know there have been a ton of dumb and childish thoughts thrown out but expecting the team to be dumb and childish as well isn’t realistic.

Seems like they're envisioning a Shohei Ohtani belle of the ball tour in free agency but as we all know the NHL is a hard cap league with hundreds of millions flying around on Canada Day game of musical chairs.

In any case he can do what he likes but he might run into a lot of unexpected disrespect out there where he was looking for validation.

It’s all Bull shit. He is just using it as a negotiating tactic. He is trying to get one of the interested party’s to throw him an offer July 1st so big and so favourable to him that he will accept it. The old offer he can’t refuse tactic.
A real classless move

I thini it is written in the stars.

Leafs can't go past the 2nd round; McDavid just can't win the cup

McDavid signs with the Toronto Maple Leafs and leads the team to multiple cups.

I can see this happening!!!

:yo:
McDavid wants to win most of all and said "I have to do what is best for my Family".

Leafs came closer losing in game #7 than Oilers did in game #6 of beating Florida.

Leafs would be fulfilling a dream.

Leafs management including Treliving would not be doing their due diligence and preparing to replace Marner with McDavid, Until Connor re-signs with Oilers the dream remains alive that he comes home to friends and family.

McDavid is represented by Judd Moldaver, who also represents Auston Matthews. Two summers ago, the Maple Leafs’ captain signed his extension on Aug. 23, so the agent isn’t averse to waiting, either. And I don’t think McDavid's getting traded even if he starts the season unsigned.
