You miss 100% of the shots you dont take.

Marner had just 11 5v5 shots in 13 playoff games...pretty lousy for someone with the minutes he gets and the contract he has/had.

Also doesnt help he doesnt like physical areas...so when he does get shots they are on the perimeter usually.

also... when he without Matthews his line is outplayed...outshot, outchanced and expected goals favor the opponent. And that is with Tavares as a center.

So hopefully wherever he goes, they have Hart trophy/Lindsay winner to pair him with, or else it could be bad. Especially at 14 mill.

Mitch Marner is in for a Rude Awakening on July 1st​


According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, though, if Marner wants to drag out the process of selecting a new team, a few of his preferred destinations may give him a rude awakening.

In his most recent edition of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Friedman suggested that contending teams will not sit around until mid-July waiting for Marner to make a decision. In fact, he flat out stated that contending teams will present Marner with an ultimatum: sign quickly, or miss out on a preferred destination.

"What happens if a team Marner really likes says 'here's our offer on July 1st, and it's on the table until tomorrow, because we can't afford to wait for you to go through a process like this. We have to know, because the answer is you're not coming, we have to race to plan B'. So, that might be the plan, but a few teams said to me that someone is gonna go in there and say 'we're not doing this, here's our offer, you've got X (and it's going to be quick) to take it or leave it'. They guarantee someone is going to go in there and force Marner to make a decision, because teams can't afford to wait."

Marner was originally expected to take his time making his decision, with the time frame of mid-July to select his new NHL team. As it turns out, if he hopes to sign with a contender, the decision may have to be a whole lot quicker than he'd like.

He wants to be the center of attention for as long as possible, and for teams to fight over him like the demigod he always projects himself to be. Instead, these teams are just flat out going to give him a reality check by saying "Dude, drop the middle-school antics and just give us an answer."

I belive Matthews has backproblems and for that reason alone i belive we should stay away. Healthy he can beat anyone. Got a lot to prove the remainder of his contract.

Its an opportunity for Leafs to restructure their cap and roster. Leafs just have to make the playoffs and then after that playoffs is a different ball-game altogether compared to regular season.

Leafs can make the playoffs IMO they may not be 1st in division or 1st in conference but they can make the playoffs. Then in the playoffs when its balls to the walls hockey we need those kind of players. After making the playoffs its a clean slate regardless of which seed you were in the regular season.

Marner gone is the best thing that can happen to the Leafs. Leafs can find 2 to 3 players who can together make up for the points Marner scored for about 11 to 12 AAV (combined) and spread that across three lines that is only going to pay dividends

We can do a lot with the money, but as i said. I dont trust the management to handle any money at all.
 
Thinking back to a few years ago, Marner had such an unbelievable game against Carolina. I want to say we won a comeback 8-7 and it was an afternoon game. God i miss times pre contract talks. I'm concerned that we're on the downswing and we have one more shorter era of this core on a retool, before we have to start again. But if this was the height of this era, it was never a worthy team to begin with.

Despite what some think, assists are important for team scoring... Marner helps teams score more, even if he is not the one doing it.
