Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Does it seem he's made that way?

I think he cares a great deal, but his screaming at the bench, isn't the same as motivating the bench.
Go out and crush an unsuspecting player, cause a net front skirmish, get in a fight or hell just wrestle someone to the ground or something... then go and tell your teammates "Lets f$&#^% go boys!"

Dont stand on the perimeter, avoid the front of the net and then skate to your bench, throw your helmet at a trainer and scream at your teammates to "wake the $%$% up". ESPECIALLY after being the player who stopped backchecking on the first goal against.

He's not talking with the team or engaging with them at all.

He doesn't want to sign with the team. What is there to talk about? Didn't Tavares not take Montreal's calls? He didn't want to go there.

Mitch Marner is the adult in the room when it comes to the Leafs and MLSE. That's how deformed and depraved this operation has become. The Leafs can't even get themselves the opportunity to offer him a massive overpayment. Thank you Mitch.

If Marner hates the fans and the media, why take it out on the team that gave you everything and coddled him lol.

If I was Marner, I would have fired my agent years ago - completely ruined his reputation. He was always going to get paid, hell anyone here could have inked negotiated Marner a 10x8 contract lol.

Didn't he miss an assignment on a GA after telling his team to wake up?

Tavares took the Islanders calls right up until July 1st

No it isn't - he's even offered the Leafs an appointment lol.
Players decide to stop negotiating with their team and go to UFA every year. This is normal. I don't get why Leaf fans have to write so much fanfic and dramatize it as a break up to justify their harassment. This is not normal. This is why a lot of players refuse to play here.

It's not fanfic to suggest Marner's camp holds animosity against the Leafs.

And even if you "stop negotiating", players still maintain dialogue with their teams - sign and trades, establishing the market, discussing other clients, etc.

Players discuss other clients? 🤔

I can’t wait for the leafs to raise the “We took Florida to game 7 in rd 2” banner, right beside the “respect in the handshake line from Tampa” banner.

The org did "disrespect", if you want to use that word, him with the bonuses and Babcock stuff. That's old news and should probably be forgiven by now. The fans have ABSOLUTELY disrespected Marner with the IRL harassment on the street he got, his house being vandalized, car stolen, gun pointed at him, and the death threats. Toronto doesn't necessarily have to mean the team itself. My belief is Marner likes the team, but wants out of the city. If all that shit happened to me, I'd want out.

If Marner was that offended by Babcock who was fired in 2019, or Lamoriello who was let go in 2018, shouldn’t he have asked to be moved instead of playing 6 years of a big contract with the support of a president and 2 GMs and then whine about history later.

As far as my own disrespect to the player, I freely admit it. Don’t really like him.

Player reps do.
And if that happened, it wouldn't be "Marner's camp" talking to the Leafs, it would be the camp of the player they're talking about. So no, Marner wouldn't be talking about "other clients" through himself or his rep. Marner is not involved in Sam Bennet's negotiations. The level of delusion here is off the charts.

Tavares was open to returning to NYI. Mitch Marner isn't. He knows the team is garbage and has zero chance of winning so he's leaving before he gets blamed and has his name ran through the mud even more like ROR. Austonfluenza and Bystander will be unleashed without Marner holding them back!

I guess that depends on if you personally want to be traded because of those things. It's okay to be pissed off about something and not demand a trade. I get pissed off with my company at work all the time, I haven't quit.

Holy $&#^ your right, he was yelling at his teamates at 5:34 of the second. At 5:01 in the second, he softly tried to redirect a Reilly pass into the zone and instead it went directly to a Fla player who took it down the ice and scored. But it was called back.

Lol... such a Marner like thing.

Yell at your team to wake up... very next shift cause a goal against.

You can’t treat the team like a business, looking for the highest bonus, highest salary, best term to negotiate a new high percent salary, using what other teams might pay you via offer sheet, handed a letter as Assistant Captain (when I wouldn’t give him one), then turn around and cry when the team is business with you (waive your NMC) whatever.

It says a lot about the person that business is run like that.

No matter what the issue is, this Marner soap opera needs to end. Go to a new team and take Dreger and his boys with you.
The UFA class is dog shit this year. Marner is the only thing they can use to get clicks. The only drama here is from people believing 100% of what the media said, even with decades of evidence that a lot of the things the media says is fabricated.

I still don't quite believe he's going to wait until July 15th to sign lol. That has to be code for "offer your highest possible contract upfront". Sure they can do tours but his top 4 teams aren't going to keep a spare 14M as most of them will miss on him
Absolutely it’s a negotiation tactic. It’s like selling a home with a preset date for offer presentations. It’s to get buyers to get in early and hard.
One more reason to not like money Mitch

Except for the part where Matthews and Nylander did the same thing and got rewarded for it. But now suddenly Mitch Marner gets treated differently and they try to trade him even though he has full protection. Hmm, I wonder why he's not taking their calls.

The most pathetic part is that they've done a 180 and want him back. :shakehead Horrible franchise.

There's no way dude. Come on
Come on now.

Also fair contract my ass. Rantanen signed for less despite having two seasons over a point per game while Mitch only had one. Yes Marner had more points with 94 but that was in 82 games, Rantanen had seasons of 84 in 81 and 87 in 74 (which would have him at 96 in 82 if he'd played). Or Kucherov, his third contract where he was an RFA with arbitration rights he had seasons of 85 and 100 points when he signed for $9.5 million for 8 years. Imagine that, a star forward signing for the maximum amount of term. At the time Rantanen signed for 6 years at $9.25 million, he took up 11.35% of the cap. Kucherov took up 11.66% of the cap on his deal. Mitch signed for 6 years at $10.893 million, 13.38% of the cap. A fair contract would've been below $10 million, anything resembling $9-9.5 million would've been fair. But our green GM bent over backwards to avoid another Nylander situation and ended up overpaying him as a result.
This is a perfect example of the problem. A lot of people don't understand how NHL contracts work, and it just leads to anger and bad narratives. They pick out specific individuals - half of which aren't even valid comparables - and then pick out one specific stat in a specific portion of their pre-signing period, without considering any context, what that stat actually represents, or any other contributions. When the player signs based on how valuation actually works, the unrealistic expectations are used as justification to throw undeserved venom at the player (this time for 6 years). Through their ELCs, Marner produced better than Rantanen overall, and in each individual game state, and he did so in worse situations to produce, while providing more than just points. The contract was fair. Marner got a bigger contract than Rantanen because Marner was a better player than him. Same reason he's about to get more again.
