Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Up yours Mitch.

Did you feel disrespected when the fans boo'd you on your last shift as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Here's a newsflash: the fans aren't booing you because they're being disrespectful. They're booing because they're feeling disrespected by your shitty performance.

Don't take it personal.

Nobody is booing you because they don't like Mitch Marner the person. Even though there's a lot about you not to like. The head of the snake you embody everything fans don't like about the team.

But the fact remains they're still only booing because of your play.

You're a soft, weak, no scoring, gutless choke artist. And if you play the same way on your new team the fans there will boo you too. If you don't like I can assure you the fans don't care.

Stick it where the sun don't shine.

So let’s infer reasonably here…

Publicly notes he’s treated like a god in Toronto…
We know the contract/money dynamics…
Will be touring cities to determine preference according to offer/fit…but as a lever with Toronto who has been informed they will have an opportunity at a later date…
Paul Marner is and has been a constant voice of discontent about in-house appointment and respect, singularly with Marner’s “friend?” AM34…

So how does a club exceed past this type of arrogance and simultaneous discontent when one of its leaders never takes personal responsibility for personal shortcomings but by every turn blames someone else at all times within the organization?

Surely there is no cause for concern about Marner and his father’s exit, and every reason for celebration that they’re (hopefully) gone?
None of that is really true.

Makes me laugh when people try and make a point about the Leafs potentially taking a step back during the regular season. You know what team also took a big step back and almost missed the playoffs after they made some massive culture changing moves? The Florida Panthers. They squeaked into the playoffs, made the cup finals, and have now won b2b cups.

The Panthers turned around and signed caracter guys, not Marners.

What if… Marner was a mature superstar player and just said “yeah I will take the lions share of the blame because screw it I’m this team’s Yzerman. Not AM34, not Willie, this is my team and I’m going to put the Leafs on my back?”

That possible?
Pressure is a privilege. Being blamed comes with being seen as your teams leaders, that's a compliment, not a curse.

So… Marner and his camp were upset he wasn’t named captain, yet he also doesn’t want to take on the blame when things go wrong?

while Tavares wore the C, it’s been Marner and Matthews who were the true faces of this team. They got paid on RFA deals like elite franchise players—deals that Tavares never even came close to as an RFA when he was younger or most other players other than games elite.

Matthews has largely delivered on those expectations: a Hart Trophy, a Ted Lindsay, three Rocket Richards, and an iconic 69-goal season.

Marner hasn’t. And to make matters worse, he’s consistently terrible in front of the media, something that’s part of the job when you're positioned as a franchise player.

He wants the spotlight, the paycheck, the status but not the responsibility and criticism that come with it. You can't have it both ways.

he is where he is because of of his actions not because hes being treated unfairly, Matthees, Tavares and nylander are very good at avoiding bad sound bites, Marner pushes back because he thinks he is being treated unfairly and is above the treatment, constantly saying all these things:

- I hate social media
- you guys expect us to score 10 points a night or something.
- We dont care what you think
- I like going home to my dog because he doesnt know anything about what I do and he loves me for being his dad.
- and I thought we played good, I really did
- the stanley cup is the hardest thing to win for a reason
- I find sticks down low, thats my game (response to berube saying he needs to shoot)
- we are treated like gods

ON and ON and On....

Two consecutive years where he blamed his teammates for playoff losses? Yep, some leader.

Does it seem he's made that way?

I think he cares a great deal, but his screaming at the bench, isn't the same as motivating the bench.

No issues with him leaving, whether it's for more money, better chance to win, less pressure, or some combo of the 3.

But as I said yesterday - I just don't understand him disrespecting the organization that has only ever done right by this guy.

How do some "fans" defend this open contempt and disdain against your hockey team?
The org did "disrespect", if you want to use that word, him with the bonuses and Babcock stuff. That's old news and should probably be forgiven by now. The fans have ABSOLUTELY disrespected Marner with the IRL harassment on the street he got, his house being vandalized, car stolen, gun pointed at him, and the death threats. Toronto doesn't necessarily have to mean the team itself. My belief is Marner likes the team, but wants out of the city. If all that shit happened to me, I'd want out.

They more than made up for the Babcock & bonuses issue by paying him above market value in 2019.

And even if he is angry at the fans, it still doesn't answer my question: why is he so angry at the team?

Yeah, I don't believe he has any issue with the team or teammates, really no reason to.

I remember watching an interview with Ferris last fall when he bragged about how shrewd he was for getting Broberg and Holloway out of Edmonton, and how he brought two offersheets to Mitch but Mitch wouldn't sign them.. We should've known right then it was over.

Guess who Sam Bennett's agent is too lol.

When they came out with “we can and we will” many knew it was a big mistake.
Yet many still want to go the same route, paying half the cap to 4 guys. Most of the posts wanting Marner to stay ask or look for a who is going to replace him. It should be how many smaller additions will we make with the extra cash,

Is he angry with the team? What has he, personally, said about the situation? I've seen rumours and speculation and people writing fanfic about how his agent has a secret shadow network to subtly leak things through the media. Which is ridiculous, because his agent can just directly talk to people if he wants to communicate things. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that everyone here believes 100% of the things they hear, they believed Hockeybuzz FFS.

He's not talking with the team or engaging with them at all.

You can’t treat the team like a business, looking for the highest bonus, highest salary, best term to negotiate a new high percent salary, using what other teams might pay you via offer sheet, handed a letter as Assistant Captain (when I wouldn’t give him one), then turn around and cry when the team is business with you (waive your NMC) whatever.
