Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Tkachuk had worse numbers than Marner before Florida, he has similar numbers now.

Zito took a chance on him.

Also, Huberdeau was dumped on some dumb GM, right?
Its not reading comprehension its your poor talent evaluation abilities vs. GM Bill Zito that is in play here that you seem to keep repeating to make some lost point only your understand.

You some how must believe EVERY NHL player that struggles qualifies for your wide casting net that has now snapped up Marner in it. Most NHL fans can see the style of play the Matthew Tkachuk play is built for the playoffs, and Marner's preferred regular season style is not transferable to hard hitting, tight checking, physical playoff style hockey, after witnessing Mitch struggles for the past 9 playoff years.

Here is a slight history lesson for you to help your comprehension of the situation. :teach2:

Panthers won the President's trophy in 2022 with 122 points and Huberdeau finished 2nd in regular season scoring with 116 points, but the Panthers lost in round #2 of the playoffs by getting swept by TB.

Huberdeau was a struggling mess, what we Leaf fans have now grown accustomed to as a Marner like contribution.

So GM Bill Zito of the Florida Panthers paid what appeared to be a king's ransom for Matthew Tkachuk, and it may pay off in multiple cup crowns,. The Panthers sent their leading scorer Jonathan Huberdeau, Dman MacKenzie Weegar, a top prospect Cole Schwindt and a first-round pick to the Calgary Flames to acquire Tkachuk in July 2022.

Since making the trade Tkachuk has become a top 5 NHL playoff scorer [ 66 games 24 goals 44 assists 68 points] during his time in Florida and his team is now in its 3rd straight Cup final and verge of its 2nd straight Cup.

You can keep comparing a struggling Marner to the Matthew Tkachuk situation if it makes you feel good. but it doesn't align with the reality of the world which has happened as a result. Its was Huberdeau's poor performance with the Florida Panther's that forced Zito's desired DNA change, not Tkachuk's prior record in Calgary.

Hope that provides some clarity for you so you can stop posting Marner = Tkachuk in the future like it means something that it doesn't.

PS. The GM that was forced to trade Tkachuk in a sign and trade because RFA Tkachuk was not going to re-sign in Calgary ,so BT got what he believed was the best return described a "Kings ransom" at the time. Treliving had no intention of trading Matthew Tkuchuk but would have preferred to re-sign him and not take the Panthers offer despite its size and return.,

Now Treliving is attempting to pull a Bill Zito and change the teams DNA and that begins by replacing a struggling playoff soft Marner with hopefully playoff style warrior(s) so the Leafs can also have playoff success.

Anyone just watch Reinhardt just muscle his way thru 2 defenders and score for Florida. That’s how winners play. When was the last time Marner did that in an elimination game…….never.
That’s why the clown is not worth even close to what he is asking for.

Reinhart is the king of efficient, non flashy play. He’s not showy at all but is just smart and opportunistic and plays a basic fuel efficient game.

A choice between Marchand at 13$M or Marner at 8$M would be a more interesting one, I'd at least have to think about that one for a bit.
Oh buddy. It's like I said earlier, even that scenario wouldn't even be that interesting or a scenario where I'd have to think about it. Marchand at 13 million all day everyday.

The fact Marner seemingly feels he was hard done by in his time with this organization proves he needs to leave. That man was handed the keys to this franchise at a young age, with the money that comes with it. Somehow now he resents the Leafs organization and fans for how he was treated? Heavy weighs the crown Mitchie and it was to heavy for you.

Waiting until July 15 for Mitch to make up his mind is potential suicide for any team. Sitting on roughly $15 million dollars worth of cap in the hopes that Marner may choose to sign with you is missing out on a lot of other signings or deals you could do instead.
There is nothing I would love more than teams walking away from that sweepstakes. I think this backfires and blows up in his face.

I also think if he goes short that this may end up biting him in the a$* too. Once people see what a choke artist he is they will turn their back on him right quick. Again I hope it happens.
