Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

If Marner was this guy, he'd be adored.

Instead, he's this guy.

don't have like power at the moment but holy there is so much truth to this

There’s clearly an obstructionist, non cooperative, and bad faith stance Marner has handled this Leafs situation with. Can’t really get away from that and blame the GM and toxicity of the market when you’re offered to exit but won’t waive.
Yup. This planted fake news about Marner wanting to leave is clearly a negotiating tactic to get the Leafs to cave and for Marner to get max dollars to play where he wants to... Toronto.

He wants to have his cake and eat it to. I hope the Leafs' brass is strong enough to really change the DNA.

Let the cancer walk.

just waiting until the week of July 1st to see him sign elsewhere and for this thread to finally go away. Not worth talking about a soon to be ex-Leaf anymore.
After the fact... yeah I'm with yah... sucks but it is what it is.

I'd love a sign and trade but he has a stupid no trade clause etc ... management gave it to him. Well... past management.

Wish they wouldn't hand them out as easy but you can't blame a player or agent for asking for it. People want stability.

Anyway ... maybe they won't so much now but I doubt it.

Ex leafs though... sorry you failed. If he gets over 14 million... good riddance.

No, in this case Marchand was passed over. Rienhart for Marchand is the only change between the 4 nations and the olympics first 6. For Marner it is status quo.

You would think the player that believes he should be the highest paid player in the NHL should be an automatic choice for any team of any country come Olympic selection.

Marner was also not named to either the NHL 1st or 2nd All-Star teams this year despite breaking 100 points for the first time. Neither did he receive any personal trophy or awards.

All signs including statistical comparisons point to Overrated and Overpaid when it comes to Marner.

There is no source data that can be supplied to validate that contract ask.

They could have, but instead they chose Rienhart over Marchand. In fact, they could have chose any Canadian player.
Correct, they could choose any 6 Canadian players. Reinhart was picked, Marner was not. Neither was Marchand.

So guess who was passed over?

There is no poisonous environment.

Fans telling players to F off? That’s happen in any sports in any major market.

Just bc your boy is leaving, doesn’t mean it is a poisonous environment.

Are you one of those that you wish Leafs sucks from now on bc MM is gone, that way you can come here and state the claim that Leafs is nothing without MM?

We cheer for the logo and not the name in the back.
Marner earned the boos he received in game 7 and would have gotten a lot worse on almost any other market after the way he played and how he treated everyone: fans, the team, and media.

How he left Toronto compared to how Tkachuk left Calgary reveals a lot about each player. Tkachuk was raised to think of team first and was respectful enough to tell the Flames he wouldn’t re-sign, Marner seems to be more about himself.

Marchand. He is the only one of the first 6 at the 4 nations that was passed over. In this case in favor of Rienhart.

I suppose you would.

So how is it status qou for Marner? They could have chosen Marner over Reinhart.
He wasn't in the first 6 for the 4 nations and wasn't in the first 6 for the Olympics. Nothing has changed for Marner. That is the existing state of affairs. Of course they could have. They could have chose any Canadians for the top six, but they decided that Rienhart over Marchand as the only change over the first 6 from the 4 nations.

I have never heard another major sports team in the NFL, NBA, MLB or European soccer complain about media and pressure. Why does that only affect Toronto? Some of those markets make Toronto look like child’s play.

Yep, he always talked about his desire to stay, until Treliving screwed it up. Now you're making up baseless accusations that he was lying all along.

Not signing during the season doesn't imply anything you've claimed. Marner has avoided in-season signing distractions his whole career. There's also no evidence that he would only sign an overpayment. Though ironically, "didn't get the overpayment they liked last off season so they won't negotiate to try and scare the team into giving them what they want" is exactly what Nylander was reported to have done.

It's also why it is a distraction for the player, and players are allowed to not want to deal with that while they are focused on the current season.

Not signing during the season doesn't say anything about his desire to stay. There is plenty of other time to get a deal done, and GMs that are actually competent at their job would have respected and worked around that.

Team got one of the best players in the world on a surplus value contract, helping the Leafs be one of the best teams in the league throughout that contract.

He never held the team hostage, and he was never "told to go f*** himself". You have quite the imagination.

Marner has never been given a blank cheque. Would have helped to have the last guy around to get a fair deal done again, instead of Treliving sabotaging the team.

Stop blaming Marner for management's incompetence. Time for Treliving to become a big boy and take responsibility for his failures.
I can tell you drink a lot of the juice.

The talent pool for Canada is thin. This isn't prime 2010 or 2014 when we had 1st line dudes in their prime on the 4th line. Just look at the 2010 centers lmao.

Prime Crosby, Prime Toews, Getzlaf, Thorton, Stall, Prime Bergeron, it's literally endless.

The fact that Marner is behind Reinhart, Point is a joke. He's obviously behind Marchand as well.

I wanted to let this guy go already, but man team Canada roster shows how fcked we are with Leaf contracts. 8x13.5 mil and Reinhart is picked ahead of him lmao.

It is Treliving's fault though. It's not bias to state the undeniable truth.
Tre did nothing wrong and stop deflecting. He was never signing in Toronto. Drama Boy likes to be the centre of attention. He can throw his gloves on the bench in Ana and yell at his teammates without a bead of sweat on his brow. He cashed in on this franchise a long time ago but you are making up any excuse to exonerate him. Drama Boy-exit stage left.

Fans who use regular season salary to quantify playoff performance are fools. There is no connection.
The connection is the other way around.

Playoff performance is a factor in salary, which is paid for the season, which may or may not include playoffs.

Fans who think just because salaries are scheduled to be paid during the regular season that playoffs don't factor in are not being logical.

With all respect, you're simply not taking this Marner defense serious enough.

That is why I believe Marner needs to sign in Anaheim so that his young infant son can live his first 4 years going to Disneyland down the road.

View attachment 1050843

Then when Marner tries to milk his new team in 4 years with a new contract, we have to factor in the horror of the impact of tearing his young son from Disneyland and uprooting a 4 year old from Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and of course the Country Bear Jamboree.

Even Marner wouldn't be that cruel to his own family just to chase top dollar. :wg:
Couldn’t have said it better. Up until a few months ago there was never another woman that gave birth before and never another child being born that would be in the school system soon. Such stress.

I love the piece with Shaq when his old man called him up after a bad game in NY and showed him what real stress is. Too many cream puffs on here. Even Keefe said some players are pretty sensitive. Sensitive boy had a fit and threw his gloves behind the bench, he didn’t want to play anymore. Listen. Fantastic talent but from year one there was drama. From his little spat with Babcock to his run ins with the media and the circus of his RFA deal. I hope he signs in Ana and I hope Benoit lines Drama Boy up and nails him.
