Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

He may not want to be a Leaf but I think it is more the Leafs deciding he is no longer part of the solution or better yet, they have seen enough on his pathetic playoff performances.
The Leafs are still trying to engage Marner's camp, per Friedman.

The Leafs haven't decided he is no longer part of the solution - Marner has decided it for them.

Rather he take a hike than pay him 13 mill. That one million wont be much of a diff maker.

Ive watched the highlights back and Marner just keeps popping up in all the goals against AND rarely shows up in the highlights for offense creation.

Not just miscues but just butter soft plays.

Game 7 goal one against...Marner stops skating and doesnt fill in for Reilly who pinches.

Game 7 goal 4 against (called back), he softly tries to redirect the puck into the zone and its directed right to a Panther who takes it down icr and scores. But it was called back.

Then he is caught on camera yelling it at the bench to wake the %^%$ up? He was as much the problem as anyone else!

He also is on yhe highlighy in game 6 I believe, where he tries yet another soft touch redirect in his oen zone and that one too goes directly to a Panther who gets an opportunjty to score.

He is king of the not being able to play playoff hockey. Nothing will change it either...
I agree with some of what your saying but there was plenty of blame to go around and he was ppg

also all this really doesn't matter since if he'll sign here for around 13m per it's a discount so he deserves to be praised for staying home and taking less than market value , i'm just trying to be consistent with how this board feels about ufa contracts

I hope he gets what he deserves during his first game back.
Has a player ever been booed entirely during a video tribute when they've returned?
Even Islanders fans quieted down during the JT tribute video.
Marner's going to hear it properly from fans - and it's no less than he deserves, to be honest.

TIL it's his fault people doxxed him and threatened to murder his newborn.

Where was that ever reported???? Where was that confirmed???? Now people are just making excuses for this guy!!!!

He is a punk, who thinks he is owed wearing the blue Leaf on the front of his jersey!!! Nothing is owed to him, he owes the fans and the city of Toronto to give it his all everyday that he was a member of the TML!!! Instead he goes around giving interviews on how he is viewed as a GOD???? Where did he get that from??? I personally do not view TML GODS!!!! I view them as my favorite hockey team which I expect them to wear that jersey with conviction and passion.

Shit, Michael Jordan got death threats!!!! Tiger Woods got death threats!!!! Dan Marino got death threats!!!! David Beckham got death threats!!! This happens to the best players in the world all the time. This isnt anythng new. There are your couple of loose canons out there that take it too far. But yes, I would say in most cases Marner included . Have made comments or their actions have cause the threats they have received. In Marners case....well he just showed he didnt give a damn and was happy getting paid and being seen as a GOD.

5 Forwards named ahead of him, all of which will likely be making at minimum 1m less than Marner come next season 🤣
Oh wow I thought Stickty was referring to Marner being snubbed for the first picks of the 4 nations.

He got snubbed again, dang.

I'm guessing literally every big youtuber with over 300K subscribers has also gotten death threats before.

People are so melodramatic with the way they cling to this shit. Zero understanding of the real world at all.

I hope it is defeaning.. through the whole thing. What highlights will they even show? Spinorama turnovers? Bailing away from Zacha when he could have won the series against the Bruins last year?

Just can't stand this punk.. waste of 9 years.

It is Treliving's fault though. It's not bias to state the undeniable truth.
What if Marner was not willing to move off of his ask and the Leafs were not willing to move off of their offering. Isn’t that just a failed negotiation? It happens all the time in negotiations or are you implying that there should have been no negotiation and Treliving should have just given in to Marners demands?
If that is your criteria for Treliving failure then it should also apply to Marners failure to secure a deal

I think we all remember just how much the Marner PR crew proclaimed how insanely superior he is to Brayden Point on the last round of contract negotiations (where Point got paid significantly less both on a bridge AND a long term deal) and yet now this is 2 Olympic teams that Point has been selected over Marner. Reinhart too now.

Leafs with a higher G/60 than Mitch Marner (0.51) in the playoffs with 200+ mins for the Leafs since 2007:

W Nylander 1.27
JvR 1.22
P Marleau 1.10
A Matthews 1.08
J Tavares 1.06
M Knies 1.06
T Bozak 0.93
M Domi 0.83
ROR 0.83
K Kapanen 0.69
N Kadri 0.60
J Muzzin 0.53
M Rielly 0.53
A Kerfoot 0.52

Just as classy as when it happened with Reimer.

A bunch of assists playing on the top line with Knies, Matthews and the top PP with Nylander, Tavares, Matthews, Knies. All thanks to his linemates and not him. How many points did Marner put up last postseason when Matthews was injured and only played 4 games? Marner had a grand total of 3 in 7 games. And once again was one of the players sleeping on the Pasta series winning goal.

He had 1 shot TOTAL in games 2-6 vs Fla.

He had 2 goals in 13 games. 1 was a breakaway from jumping the D zone, the other a fluke shot from the perimeter.

This guy is so obviously useless that its shocking people keep defending him.

Look at his Playoff shot locations. Absolutely Garbage! Rantanen probably had mor shots, from the slot in 1 game this postseason.

Mitch reportedly wanting a 4 year deal to maximize his earnings is just another symptom of Marleau being his and Matthews’ favourite veteran. A player that won sweet f*** all but signed a bunch of high priced, short term deals to make as much money as possible during his career.

Marleau was an absolute cancer for this franchise. Beyond having to use a first to dump him he poisoned the well. There’s a lot of things I’d change about how this era went but not signing Marleau would easily be in my top five.

You’ve tried to paint the picture that living in Toronto is an online and media hellscape for Marner, it’s the “toxicity” that he needs to escape from. So how can it be Treliving’s fault that he can actually impact Marner’s decision to come back or not when he essentially can’t live here?

To put this into further spin territory, Treliving has also tried to trade Marner, let’s say even help him by finding a better city to live and play in. Doesn’t seem like Marner was a cooperative party and took the idea of leaving as an insult as you’ve also tried to frame it.

Which goes back to point one. If he truly couldn’t live in Toronto anymore, why did he obstruct Treliving’s attempt to trade him, or take offense to the idea of leaving Toronto?

Long story short, maybe you can’t go blaming everybody except Marner for why this relationship went sideways. If there’s an origin point to this relationship breaking down it’s that Marner sucks in the playoffs and isn’t worth his contract and definitely not worth the next one.

The report of a 4 year deal is just an interesting parallel to what the Leafs happily gave Auston Matthews in the summer of 2023.

In addition to torpedoing the whole notion of a sign and trade (don’t bother), you can tell the primary motivation is seeking unique overpayment, maximizing earnings and having team unfriendly contract term.

Let it go guys. He's gone.

Whatever he is as a player for the Leafs doesn't matter any more.

If he finds a better gear somewhere else good for him, we shouldn't feel bad because it wasn't happening here.

4 years also just happens to be when his kid will be starting school, so I bet there's motivation to find stability when that happens so his kid doesn't get moved around constantly. That's a very human reason for it though, so feel free to ignore it and demonize him.

It’s funny. If Mitch Marner had no online entourage like Brayden Point and just played his game, quietly negotiated as hard as he did but behind closed doors, I don’t think his image would be the way it is.

Oh yes, the stability of moving your kid to the next, next destination after a couple of daycare years in the stop gap city, which you are only there to milk a contract.

Dude, he's all about the money. It's so blatantly clear at this point.

How far into denial do you have to be to not understand he had zero loyalty to Toronto ever.
