Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Yeah, I believe it was on his own podcast.

He said the Leafs were going to trade Matthew Knies, Petr Mrazek and two first round draft picks to Chicago for Marc-Andre Fleury and Brandon Hagel. The Leafs were going to extend Fleury in the deal as well, apparently.

Walsh said Dubas told him it was a "done deal" and then called him back two hours later and said he went upstairs for approval and the deal was nixed.
Yes, I think that was it. The other narrative is that Kyle Davidson made the details public and it was that that nixed the trade.

Trusting Dubas with goaltending was a no-go. It was actually scary how bad he was at assessing goalies.

According to Kyper there will be 28 teams lined up at Marner's door with checkbook in hand trying to sign him. It may take months for him to decide which one of these 28 teams to sign with.
That puts the Leafs and 3 other teams of the 32 total teams on the right side of history, and those 28 lining up on the side of eventual regret (its inevitable just a matter of time). :wg:

He was like the Anti-Lou when it came to goaltenders while Lou had a crazy weak spot for long term deals to 4th Liners. Tre seems to be just paralyzed when it comes to the Core 4 and making a move.

I see the Marner cucks are still working hard for the family. What a joke. Can’t wait to see them gone when Marner leaves.
Oh they aren't going anywhere unless he sucks in the city he plays in. Every single time he has a good game they will be here to tell us how stupid they were for not signing him to $120M deal. Trust me o n this one...

Makes a lot of sense. They have a ton of capspace, warm California weather, and out of site and mind from the Toronto media in a 4 hour different time zone.

If he doesn't sign in Vegas (which I think is the main frontrunner) I think this may be the second most likely option
Or perhaps another way of looking at this is ..

What are the 2 closest NHL cities to Auston Matthews summer home is Scottsdale Arizona ?

LA and Las Vegas ----> Arizona

If Mitch can't ride shotgun beside Matthews in Toronto during the winter, then he can do it in the off season instead, and relocate closer to his Pal. :wg:

No doubt about that. Posters do that with every player who leaves. Even what happens with draft picks and prospects. I saw a post earlier about Carter Verhaeghe who went through two organizations before landing with the Panthers. Marner will be the same if he chooses free agency.

Actually if you cared to be active during the playoff threads, a lot of people commended the performances from Domi, Pacioretty, Laughton and Lorentz.

It's a shame the core sucks up so much of the cap so we didn't have more $ to support the bottom-6.

The goalies took up $3 million... they had enough to spend.

They had another $3 million + in the pressbox.

Pacioretty and Domi chipped in quite a bit of offense through the first two rounds, directly contributing to one of the OT wins in Ottawa, the series clincher in Ottawa. That poster also seems to have it out for Knies assuming the Dubas-Hagel angle so don’t stick your hand in the cages.

Every single playoff game from game 5 in the 1st round onward over his entire career is "isolating specific games" to you?
Marner's performance in the playoffs is directly tied to the "Pressure meter".

See you can't be eliminated in the playoffs in games #1-3 so this is when to expect Marner most effective.

However with each passing game #4 onward to #7 the pressure of elimination increases as the disappearing act of Marner follows that trend.

In games # 4- #7 in this years series verses Florida Marner recorded 1 assist and 3 shots on net.

Against Boston in 2023- 24 he was good for 1 goal and 1 assist.

Against Florida in 2022-23 in the entire 5 game 2nd round series he mustered 1 goal and 2 assists.

Against TB in 2021-22 .. Marner came up with 0 goals and 2 assists.

Against Montreal in 202-21 .. Mitch provided 1 measly assist in games 4-7.

Marner fans believe Mitch is invaluable to Leafs Cup success and MUST STAY, while Die Hard Leaf fans easily spot he is instrumental by crumbling under pressure as the reason behind Leafs losses and failure and MUST GO !!!

The stats don't lie !!!! The Defense rest your Honour !! :teach2:

PS.. The most outrages factor in play here is that this player believes he should be paid the HIGHEST salary in the NHL .. To me that is pure insanity, so let him walk and don't be one of those foolish enough teams to pay him. His stats represent someone that needs to FIRED and not someone that should be REHIRED.

You want to see what a playoff warrior looks like compared to Marner's game log above.

Compare last 5 playoff series of Marner (above ) to just the last 5 games of Corey Perry, Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand.

Corey Perry making $1.5 mil

Sam Bennett making $4.425 mil

Brad Marchand making $6.125 mil

Marner @ $10.9 mil vs. Perry & Bennett & Marchand = $12.05 mil combined.

This demonstrates 1 highly overpaid overrated player verses REAL team depth spending in a Salary Cap World and how it can impact Cup success.

Not just to one player, but compared to most players in the League. Those guys are fantastic playoff performers.

When MacKinnon yells at players, do you think he is a good leader or a cringey dumbass?

I don't care how good MacKinnon is, just want an opinion on this.

I already know you'll just bring up Cup winner or something... he couldn't get out of the 2nd round without Makar... it's almost like teams matter.
I said it a few posts earlier. When Mack or McD yells at their teammates, they back it up with their plays either the next shift or the next game. Our core 5, MM included had not done that.

Think it was Overdive, either MJ or Pierre was saying that when the Leafs was up 2-0 against Panthers, he asked Ekblad what he thinks, Ekblad just said, they won two home game and now we play two at our home. If Panthers lose either of those home games and the series, Ekblad would look stupid but Panthers didn’t and it made Ekblad looked confidence and truly belief in the ability of his team. Or we can go back further to Messier with the Game 6 or Game 7 promise.

Players can say whatever they want or act childish or whatever on the Ice, bc what matters is can they produce and help their team win. Think it was the Habs series, where AM just laughed off someone pushing and cross-checking him after whistle. If Leafs won that series, it woild be AM was smart not to engage but since Leafs lost, it was AM not caring or not showing toughness. Same with MM when he cried after flipping the puck over the glass. If MM scored and helped Leafs won that game, it would be MM really cared and showed great leadership to win the game instead of him being mentally weak and a cry baby.

No it's not, and that's pretty rich coming from you.

The funniest part is that your fanciful interpretation of events still has Treliving completely failing at everything.

Losing Marner is the incorrect choice, and losing him in this way is worst case scenario.

It's not slanted against anybody. It's valid criticisms of the person responsible. And while we don't know the exact specifics of the negotiation (despite some others pretending to), much of what I wrote was public. We know one thing for sure. Whatever the reason, Treliving failed.

He never lost one of the best players in the world for nothing.
David Ayres.

Exactly this, but we have people talking about Bennett for 10m. It makes no sense, we need the next Bennett for 5m, maybe that guy will be Knies for 6m but we need to find another. Couple.
