Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Marner going to Carolina would be such a heel move.

What's strange is if you asked 20 year old Marner, do you want to be a hero in Toronto for the rest of your life in exchange for a few hundred grand off a 10M+ annual salary? I think there's a resounding yes. But he got into extremely granular arguments over the pennies on his deal, and involved Dreger publicly and it was sickening to see Rantenan sign for less money and more term a week or two later.

Hell get his bags, and I suspect his relationship with leaf fans won't be repaired until after his retirement. He could've been a legend here. I don't buy the argument that his agent went rogue and he's the real meanie. Uhh brother if your top client doesn't want you acting a certain way, you follow their instructions. I work with contracts fall smaller and even I know this

Marner wasn’t the only reason this team lost in games 5 and 7. Part of the problem definitely but if you think he was the only problem you need to take off your blinders.

I don't think anyone believes he was the only problem.

However, he was clearly one of the biggest problems, and at the moment he is the easiest one to fix.

Leaf legend Rick Vaive said it... goes i to corners like a figure skater, trying to avoid being hit.

Then Marner is yelling at his bench? And Marner is agreeing too many passengers?

Fomer NHLer, Shane Obrien on his pdocast with Scottie Upshall said nobody is gonna get behind a player yelling at them to wake the $%*& up when they play like Marner on the ice. He said "not a mark on his face and hair is dry". He also said, you need to back your mouth up with your game. He pointed that Mcdavid does... Marner does not.
Now wait just a minute. I have been told by some on this site that everyone outside of a few here love Marner and that the press just pick on him.
Could it be that actual legend players realize what a soft perimeter opportunistic player he is. Lol

I wonder if Marner would accept a one year deal while both sides contemplate how they want to go forward? Kind of like a long closing date on a house purchase with financing/inspection conditions. The advantage to him is he has a new young family and probably doesn't want to move right now and the advantage to the Leafs is they get to see what's available this summer but more importantly next summer which is supposed to have a lot of good UFA players available.

Nah Rick Vaive is just one of those frothing no-life hater morons who nobody pays attention to.

There is no chance the player accepts a one year deal. They've had all season to contemplate and now another month before UFA hits, they won't need another season on top of that to figure things out.

Why would he want to help the Leafs now? He will do what is best for him and his family. Delaying a move does more harm than good for him IMO.

Leaf management is up against it. Don't sign Marner, you lose 100 points and there is a real possibility of missing the playoffs. Sign him and incur the wrath of Leaf Nation and face an early playoff exit. The Leafs will struggle over the next 5 years at least with the hand that Dubas dealt them. So, whaddya do? Do you fold or play with the cards you've been dealt? It's a tough decision.
Last year when Matthews had 107 pts, Marner only had 85 pts...impossible... :sarcasm:

Where did he say anything remotely like that in his comment though?

His comment had nothing to do with losing in games 5 & 7 or even with Marner's perfomance. Either you replied to the wrong comment or you're gaslighting him by putting words into his mouth. You should keep it relevant to the comment you're responding to instead of going off on a make belief tangent otherwise you just come across as a fraud.

Unless that "like" from Marner's dad is something to be proud of there's nothing to be gained by being intellectually dishonest.

So you think he'd be cool moving to Carolina or Vegas with a 6 month old? That's literally the only reason I think he might consider it.

I imagine if he's leaving why push it off for a year? Secure a contract and get on with life. Leafs will offer more than a year anyway.

I am having a hard time understanding how he would reject 13.5?

Also why the Leafs would offer that?

Spooked by the Rantanen situation?
Did the Leafs offer 13.5 and Marner reject it, or did Marner ask for that and the Leafs refuse?

This was also before the Rantanen situation.

He's the prime UFA this offseason.

McDavid, Kaprizov, Makar, and Panarin are all ahead of Marner in 2026 as things stand. So Marner wouldn't do it

Mitch Marner Could be the Carolina Hurricanes' Answer in Their Quest to Acquire Some Star-Power

Initially, the Hurricanes landed Mikko Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche ahead of the trade deadline. Unfortunately, Rantanen was not fond of the team and wanted out, which forced the Hurricanes to trade him to the Dallas Stars. Notably, Marner declined to waive his no-movement clause to allow the Leafs to land Rantanen.

Carolina is reportedly near the top of Marner's list of teams he would consider going to, they have over $28M in cap space and can afford to make him the highest paid player in the NHL.
Good luck with that. Carolina is a lot like us with a slightly better structure/coaching but still soft in many respects. Like us they need a Rantanen/Tkachuk style, not Marner. But good on them if they want to pay him 13/14 million. They can save us from ourselves.
