I will not regret it. Not one bit. He has had almost a decade to elevate his commitment to the playoffs and putting in the extra effort when the games get tougher but he has not.
He may do that after being dumped as some players need that to finally wake the hell up

I'm assuming this is mostly about trying to get a massive offer from the Leafs to strengthen the position with other teams.
Even if there is a genuine desire to ponder a Leafs offer, Tre needs to aggressively pursue plans B and C as soon as July 1st rolls around. Can't miss out on other guys waiting on Mitch to see if he signs in Anaheim or wherever

He’s not a likeable player both on the ice and in press scrums so it’s not the end of the world letting him walk.

I honestly can't remember the last time I dis-liked a player so much.
Yeah there's his shitty play in the postseason. Yeah he's got a stupid big mouth. Yeah his supporters are the worst in the history of all sports.
But the thing I can't stand the most about this guy is how greedy he is.
There isn't enough money in the world for Marner. They could pay him more than whatever McDavid gets on his next contract and Marner would still tell you with a straight face he was worth more. He's the type that would go out for dinner with his teammates and make the league minimum rookie pay.
By sucking up all the cap for himself he's already squeezing them of their fair share as it is.
If Treliving lets this loser walk I'll instantly like him as GM again. For about an hour until he sign's Bennett to $10M that is. Just the fact it looks like they're finally ready to give up on the failed four forward experiment is enough to give hope things will improve next year.
The fact it's Marner they're moving on from makes it so much better.

Mitch would be smart to go to free agency , the company paid insiders could spread rumors teams were offering 15m plus so when he signs with the Leafs for 13.95m we can praise him as giving us a huge discount .

it's the offseason , people are pissed so it's easy to say it's time to move on and use his money elsewhere
the problem is every desirable ufa will be overpaid and outside of Bennet who i have little desire to give more than 7/8m per there isn't anyone else that provides what we're missing
better to sign Maner if he wants to come back and use Johnny the mumbling ghosts money to fill out the roster
