Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Has there ever been a top line winger with less shots on goal than Marner in the playoffs?
16 SOG and 2 goals in 13 games. 3 SOG and no goals in last 5 games.

How do you even consider paying this guy more than a top Nylander let alone a top 5 player. I'm now at the point where I offer him $1 and wish him well wherever he decides to go and get his Stanley Cup.

They are talking again this morning about this 13.5 mil extension that Mitch turned down during the season.

I don't recall hearing anything about this, but this is pretty crazy if true.
Because he fully views himself as a comparable to Draisaitl, much like the first contract where they demanded their comparable only be Matthews and nobody else.

The right move is to not even bother dealing with a player with this insane overinflated sense of value. Guess he still needs payback from Lou not giving him those ELC bonuses eh.

why are we still talking about a player who is long gone at this point. He held out at deadline where we could have recouped everything instead he refused to negotiate a new deal and we are now losing a 100 point player for nothing.

He's always been about the money first and he will go play in utah or something

If M&M are wagging the dog, one or both have to go. I get having to cater to your stars but when they reward you with 9 straight disappointing playoffs and disappear in closeout games, they are more of a problem than a solution for me.
I was joking.

I am going to absolutely lose my mind when he signs for another Atlantic Team for a team friendly deal.

I can already picture some people here defending it due to tax reasons etc., completely ignoring the fact that he milked this organization of every single penny he possibly could, 6 years ago

Maybe the Leafs take a page out of the Canes playbook and take on a few cap dumps?

Kreider + 1st?
Anderson + 1st?
Karlsson (if they go after Marner)?
Marchment?

These guys are overpaid but only have 1 or 2 years of term left and kind of fit a need for the Leafs.
Exactly, people are fixated on the UFA market. There are other ways to acquire players and cap space can help facilitate that

People why does anyone care where he goes? As long as he is not a Toronto Maple Leaf we are good. This guy has been the cancer in the dressing room since he has arrived. Any bad hype the Leafs have gotten over the years has been from Marner:

1. Issue with Babcock
2. Issue with Nylander on the bench during last Boston series
3. Calling himself and others on team GODS in this city
4. Blowing up this playoffs at the teams bench wanting them to wake up

These are the only things we know. That have been made public. But he isnt a good guy. He is in it only for himself, always has been since his minor days where he and his father thought they were better then McDavid. Jealous that McDavid was getting all the attention. He is a me first player and that comes out in the playoffs.

He needs to move on. Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs will be better off without him. See ya

The Fan moring show guys mentioned it last week and Seravalli did as well on their show. I posted the link. You may be able to find it on the Fan 590 web site.

The rumour was Ferris was asking for $15.5m. LOL. Wonder what Ferris thought of his client yelling at his teammates to wake the f*** up when it was too late. This guy is a loser.
15.5???

These guys, not just Marner just can't read the room.

Marner rejecting a contract that is bigger than Matthews is crazy. Quite possibly he always just intended to leave

Rumour yesterday going around was the Florida was on Marner's wish list along with Vegas.

Leafs sign Sam Bennett and Florida signs Mitch Marner as his replacement.

That would make for an interesting playoff rematch next year, :wg:

weird

It just goes to show you MLSE is at fault for letting a moron with zero education or even relative work experience and pay him $6 million bucks a year because of his name. Every board member should be ashamed of themselves

MLSE have no shame. The money keeps coming in. Never red ink ever. They don't care whatsoever.

They come off as headcases. He and Paul alike. Want nothing to do with that crazy tantamount to megalomaniac "gods" ...

Pretty obvious why Marner wants $15M a season.

I just paid $20 for three items at the grocery store. And the mayonnaise was on sale half price. Once upon a time $20 would buy me a weeks worth of grub if I budgeted properly.

Poor Marner was so worried where his next meal was coming from growing up he wants to make sure he never goes hungry again.

Marner's a good hockey player but all his flaws on and off the ice are a detriment to the team. Lack of effort, low iq hockey at critical times like those terribly stupid giveaways, and dodging hits to play like a coward. That's on top of all the off ice stuff pertaining to dealing with coaches, media, and fans that make him a locker room cancer.

So hard to believe anyone supporting the Leafs would still want him around.

Then to actively cheer for him to extract every last cent from the organization he can. Some folks are fans of the player more than the team I guess. Well they don't need to worry because I'm sure poor Marner will get a big enough raise he'll never have to miss a meal again.

Whether it's the Toronto Maple Leafs who will be paying him remains to be seen.

I find the $15.5M borderline impossible to believe. I understand that when negotiating you start apart and meet somewhere in the middle, but that number is so obscene that it's either not true or a no-so-subtle-I'm-not-reupping-here message.

Whatever makes M&M happy can only be good for the team! Obviously M&M are traumatized by playing in this market, and that they've survived this long only shows how mentally tough they are but still, they're not supermen. They should be consulted as to who they want to play with, and every effort should be made to stack the team with their friends. That was we create a safe environment where they can be happy, and considering how they almost beat the mighty Panthers even with everything stacked against them in a toxic, hostile environment, you can pencil these heroic individuals in for the finals for the next several years. Make it happen Tre!
You’re so right on this - I’m surprised that you haven’t received a “like” from the Courageous Canadian and CAPS LOCK yet. You need to talk down Nylander more I’m guessing

That’s the other players (Nylanders) fault - Marner tried his best by yelling at the bench, showing his amazing leadership qualities

It's hard when you're short on assets though. This was mentioned on Overdrive yesterday - O'Dog isn't exactly in love with JT and was saying we should look at other options and mentioned Kadri. Then whoever else was on at the time mentioned the shortage of assets ...

I'd love JT back but considering he is so transparent about wanting to be here, I'd play a little hardball and tell him we need him to give us a discount. And I would love Kadri as well but not sure how we could swing that.

I've had the same thought many times. Division rival? Good! I look forward to see you choking in a Maple Leafs playoff game while wearing some other teams colors for a change. GLG!!

Sydney Sweeney is on my wish list, along with Blake Lively.

People are, rightfully so, scared of the possibility that Marner scorches Toronto with secondary assists in November?

I guess injuries explain all his crap playoff performances during his 16 yrs in the league except for 1 series he had with the Islanders , poor bastard has had horrible luck !

I’m talking about this particular playoffs. You’re talking about his entire career. Apples and oranges
And yes he does have bad luck after that fluke knee that knocked him out of the Montreal series in game 1

Apples and Oranges ?

He's never played well in the playoffs except as i said in one series with the Islander . This is just his typical playoff self , there was no concussion , you just made that up as an excuse for his poor play .

he had 7 points in 13 games and while that's bad enough it gets even worse since he had only 3 points in the last 11 games

The other part of this equation though is he’s living a Canadian life on a USD income. So that’s not nothing.

But at some point I think we just have commit to flushing the toilet on a player whose talking points bring us to this level of detail on income.

But I also do think a lot of this is belle of the ball validation and Toronto management seems to be headed towards an unimaginative and risk adverse stance so I could still see the possibility of a run it back.

Toronto is more expensive than a lot of American cities......... even in USD....................

Yeah especially when it comes to the price of hockey tickets. But Marner get in the rink for free, hell never mind free, we even pay him to show up so ...
