In 2019 Berskshire said Marner was overrated 5v5 and that Matthews, Tavares and Nylander were substantially higher than him overall in scoring chance generating plays.

That was before Marners 11 million cap.

Berkshire was 100% right.

Im blown away that Marner is so greedy that he needs more than 13.5x8... he cant even settle for a little less than Draisaitl on Edmonton? Wherever he goes the pressure of a 14million contract will be enormous and he will be over that teams news if he doesnt live up to it.

Im shocked he would take the risk that he goes somewhere without Matthews and Nylander and Knies... and loses out on setting Maple Leaf records (because of rhe talent hes surrounded by), and loses out possibly being on legends row (which he doesnt deserve anyways).

For the record: I absolutely do not think the Maple Leafs should trade Auston Matthews, but... if they were to explore that route, I absolutely think the Los Angeles Kings would be the best fit in terms of what the Maple Leafs could receive back and a team that I think is very eager to bring in scoring help.

Marner should not be offered more than the Willy contract if we offer him anything (I wouldn't).

11.5 x 8 = 13,142,857 x 7.

Mitch will not get 13.1 per year.

Willy is straight up better than him at this point. PK is the only thing that could be argued, but id rather get a specialist of the 4th line for that duty.

Marner is not worth a penny more than his current hit, and I'd argue it should be the ceiling for him if you are looking to do any damage in the post season.

So even though what you say is true, I don’t think it’s a valid comparison. Leafs are pretty much going through something unprecedented.

Just subtract Marner. Add 2 middle 6er's at a combined 11m hit - we are still in the playoffs. Pick any 2 from FA last year.

Marner is totally irrelevant in playoff hockey, and it allows teams to double cover Matthews.

I have a hard time believing they offered him $108m during the season before seeing him one last time in the playoffs. Even harder to believe, is he turned it down. You know what they say Mitch, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Had you signed, if you found the heat too high, you could have asked for a trade and the Leafs would have granted your wish. Instead good luck finding that $108m you turned down on July 1 and enjoy moving your family to the States.

That's a good question. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to being disappointed but it wouldn't surprise me one bit. And if Berube has input, he says he 100% wants him back so unless he's lying that might be a factor as well. We'll see.

We all knew it was only a matter of time. Every time they pumped their chests after Mitch put up a couple of empty calorie assists, I knew they would be eating crow once the Leafs meet Florida. They prayed hard for Tampa to beat Florida but their prayers were never answered. You really hate to see it.

Or maybe it becomes more clear Matthews is who he is in the playoffs and Marner maybe wasn’t the issue. I have to be honest, my gut is telling me Matthews is what he is. I don’t think changing Marner is going to do much.

I have crazy thoughts like this all the time. Like: maybe the problem is not the core. Maybe it's not just these 5 guys. Maybe it's specifically these 5 guys at these salaries. If they collectively earned 10M less, and we were able to support them with two more $6M players over these years, then maybe they'd have looked a lot better and have won a cup or two by now.
