Dallas also has Marchment, Ceci, Lubyshkin, BlackwellFor all the talk about depth being and excuse for our top guys not to lead the Leafs to advance in playoffs.
Oilers are currently using
Hyman, Brown, Klingberg, and even Kap in the playoffs.
Guys who were deemed not good enough to be depth on the Leafs.
I've asked before which Division winner lets their leading ice time, all situation, leading scorer(by 20 points) who's still in his prime walk?
I don't think it's ever happened, perhaps this will be the first time?
In an alternate Universe.Dubas's cap mess ups meant that Hyman and Brown had to go...
Hyman we couldn't afford (plus mediocre playoff stats with us)
Brown was attached to move Zaitsev...that was kinda Lou's fault.
Klingberg's body was cooked with us
Kapanen....poor playoff showing vs CBJ, cleared some cap space and in an alternate universe, we're talking about Amirov, Knies, Cowan and Danford as big pieces as we move forward.
Marchment is different bc he wasn’t even a depth piece when he was on the Leafs.Dallas also has Marchment, Ceci, Lubyshkin, Blackwell
To be honest though, good for them to make a career out of it, but they all had to go. Except for maybe Marchment
In an alternate Universe.
We would had traded up to draft Drai instead of Willie.
Traded JVR for MacKinnon when he was demoted to RW as Avs thought he can’t handle being a C.
Won the McD lottery instead of drafting MM.
Traded for Ekbald when he was struggling with injuries.
Drafted Tkachuk the following year.
Instead of Lilly dropping to us at 17th, that RHD is actually Makar.
Picked up Bennett when nobody wanted him.
Never sign JT, Marleau and let Dubas as GM.
He could have been extended already if that's what he wanted.
I think it's best for all parties to turn the page.
I believe he said, after he had been fired, that he would have traded Marner. Was it well established, or was it Dubas saying "everything is being considered" again?

I didn’t go on about all of them taking a huge discount to stay together. Or both Woll and Scott never got injured and both become top Goalies in the league. lol.Now you're just being greedy lol.
The Leafs offered him 8x$13.5m - that's not "letting him walk".I've asked before which Division winner lets their leading ice time, all situation, leading scorer(by 20 points) who's still in his prime walk?

Management tried hard to re-sign him. No one can ever say he was run out of town, despite fan sentiment.Years from now there will be debates about whether Marner jilted the Leafs by walking or if Leafs fans ran Marner out of town.
Let it be known, we ran him out of town.
You suck, Marner. Booooooo! Go away and don't come back!
You do keep asking that question. Do you think it's relevant (it's not) or is it just wishful thinking?I've asked before which Division winner lets their leading ice time, all situation, leading scorer(by 20 points) who's still in his prime walk?

I was only looking at players who made the 2nd Rd...I think - It was a while ago. And I said PPG, not over PPG.There are currently 20 players who are over a PPG these playoffs. Nylander is one of them. Marner is not.
It's been pointed out a lot that Nylander got the heavy shutdown from Florida in the last five games. And speaking of playing with a less-than-great centre (or RW)....
You don't think it's relwvant!?You do keep asking that question. Do you think it's relevant (it's not) or is it just wishful thinking?
Obviously. It might not be a matter of "let"; he might want a fresh start regardless. We don't know for sure.
Correct. I was speaking from the teams side not the players side.He could have been extended already if that's what he wanted.
I think it's best for all parties to turn the page.
Exactly. "let him walk" = don't make an offer. From what we've all read, they haven't let him walk, and have offered him multiple contracts.
Since he hasn't signed, it isn't the team letting him walk.
It is the player's right to sign or not sign.
I support the player's rights.
That something hasn't happened before? Not particularly, especially if that's your argument for it not happening now.You don't think it's relwvant!?
I see what you're saying, I misread. Watching the Canada game and half reading things here...That something hasn't happened before? Not particularly, especially if that's your argument for it not happening now.
That's a good question. Maybe it's just because I'm so used to being disappointed but it wouldn't surprise me one bit. And if Berube has input, he says he 100% wants him back so unless he's lying that might be a factor as well. We'll see.But would MGT do that though?
What is the advantage of bringing them back?
Leafs will sell out regardless of whom are playing.
Knies is the driver of all jersey sells.
People kept going on about you can't replace 100pts. but with 11mil and PP1 time, I am sure they can get a new player to put up 70-80pts. Then it is just replacing 20-30pts which can be spread out among Willie, AM, Knies, Domi and McMann, thats really only 4-6 pts more among those 5 players. And considering AM had a down season, I am sure he can cover those 20-30pts decrease all by himself.
Then you look at playoffs and the lasting image will always be 6-1 blowout of Game 7.
Any sane person would agree with you...but we are talking about a GM who raced out to get Erik Karllsson as his first order of business when he already had Letang. Not only that, it was obvious that EK was not good when Brent Burns was around and only started living up to his billing in SJ when Burns left. This is the situation where you can't trust Dubas to make a good decision....he really doesn't see it the way other GM's do.Yeah I don't think he originally wanted it but when you take a deep dive into the Penguins you realize you have no choice but a complete teardown very soon.
I think blowing their load on a guy like Marner, for example, would be incredibly shortsighted. His regular season excellence hurts their standings at draft time but he doesn't move the needle enough to help them advance in the postseason either.
I agree that the depth players need to contribute but the build model of 50% of the cap on 4 soft forwards is something that also hurts the depth dollars. It is a 2 line team, and yes if they do not change something everything rests on the other team(s) failure, rather than the Leafs success.
Who is the leading scorer for the Panthers right now?

Yeah, almost as many points in the playoffs as he had in the regular season.
Leafs need someone else besides the "Core 4" to step up.
Treliving has his work cut out for him.
