Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

People talk about his size being the issue but 6'0 180 isn't that small. I've seen people call him "smurf" among other things and I don't get it. How was someone like pat kane so effective in the playoffs and how is someone like marchand so effective in the playoffs?

Im not condoning fans behaviour after the game, but Mitch brought it on himself. He plays in the craziest hockey market along with Montreal and asked for an overpayment. Then his referring to fans as “noise” and “god” comment and just over personality and not taking accountability and lack of maturity, add that up, and when you don’t deliver, fans will react accordingly. Not saying it’s right, but Mitch basically took a gasoline can and literally threw it in the fire with what I said

He is speaking exactly like Dubas lmaooo.

"Loved being a leaf so much but it's not fair until I speak to my family. I make 11M per year but it just never came up in my family talks yet. You won't see me pop up elsewhere on July 1st"

Learned from the best
Dubas wanted Shanny's job - full control so that he could do trades more efficiently - like the rumored possibility of him wanting to trade Marner. That's why he said it like that.

If Rantanen wins the Conn Smythe, I have a hard time seeing a legitimate contender going to $13.5-$15.5 million to add Marner knowing Dallas is getting a warhorse at millions below My Little Pony. Because you can't hide him behind your big dogs at that price tag.

Marner's next step post Toronto (not our problem) is basically going to be a choice between massive money and winning because I think the only teams that can offer him huge cash are going to be bubble playoff and late rebuilders who can afford the splash.
I wonder what the odds are Marner gets the Shedeur Sanders treatment in free agency.

Goes round and round until eventually your left with a pretty shocking outcome.

Weight does not have anything to do with body composition

I know tons of weak ass guys who are like 220+

Then some of the strongest guys I know are like 160-180

Then you also have the scrawniest guys who are from like 180-190

You can be 180 and extremely skinny/weak which Marner looks like he is

I don't see any way he is more than 160

Mitch at his size needed to be faster and have a better shot, that never happened.

He obviously needed more musculature and even body fat, that never happened either.

At his draft he was listed as 5'11 160, now he is listed at 6' 170, honestly it would not surprise me if he was 5'10.5 and only in the high 160s after meals+water.

He isn't either of those numbers, or very close to them.

How heavy was Tucker again? A buck 65 soaking wet (165).

Marner needs to go. Period. Full stop. This core does not work together and never will.

Tavares can go if he wants but unless they can find a #2C to replace him, he probably returns at a good number (Mirtle thinks something like the Tanev deal). Anything more and see you.
maybe the core doesn't work together because Tavares has crippled this team ?

all i heard for the 9 years he was on the Island was how poor Johnny had to carry a bunch of AHL'ers and the instant he walked the team improved and went to 2 conference finals while we just kept spinning our wheels with his addition for the last 7 yrs !

so maybe all it takes to propel this club higher is getting this stat padding piece of crap loser off this team

Who cares? He’s never going to figure it out here and he, the fans, and the franchise are all sick of this situation.

He’ll probably win somewhere else, maybe even thrive in the playoffs for once. But no one should believe it would’ve happened here. It’s too late.
I hope there is marner sweepstakes and some team gets in cap hell
Hes good but can f*** up your salary structure quick when guys making 850k out perform.u in the playoffs

Asked about his future following Sunday’s loss, Mitch Marner declined to get into details about his future: “I don’t have any thoughts right now,” he said. “Pretty devastated with what just happened.”

Maybe he will share more Tuesday morning during the club’s end of season media availabilities. Maybe he won’t. Maybe he’s said all he needs to say.

Marner is going to get $13 million and up as a free agent this July. Almost every team will check in on him if he hits the open market. Both Marner and his agent, Darren Ferris, know it. After six straight seasons of hitting or being on pace for 90+ points, he finally cracked the century mark and put up 102 points this season. That will be tough to replace.

I don’t think he has fully closed the door on the Leafs, but like I wrote about after the trade deadline in March, I fully expect teams like Chicago, Los Angeles, Utah, Pittsburgh, San Jose and Calgary to pursue him aggressively, if given the opportunity. Marner is going to get paid. It’s just a
Was that Kypreos or Dreger who wrote that?

The leaders of this team better have very quickly squashed the excuse that the fans and this city's passion for the team make it challenging to win here.

Just embarrassing excuse and needs to be abruptly laughed off by any real leader.

Truthfully, I of course blame Marner. He has continuously complained about the outside criticism for years now.

The leaders also tried to use it as a motivating factor this year often saying in interviews... "We don't care about the outside noise, we are here for each other or "We don't care what you think" (the media)

These responses have just put a huge target on this topic, and of course the media are going to fixate on it.

Marner shifted a tiny bit today, talked about how he loves being here, how the fans are great... he sympathized with the fans a bit, and it immediately feels different. It shrinks the target and the focus from the city/environment. This is the only approach he should have ever taken and im sure it wouldve be much easier for him. He is never going to win by attacking the media and fans. Seems that he has realized this a bit now that leaving is a huge possibility.

The problem is he plays small.

It's not always the size, but what you do with it (twss..)

Marner's not big, but he plays very small.

Marchand on the other hand, is a very small player that plays a much bigger game.

Brayden Point is another example of of smaller player that plays a much bigger game.

To be fair to them - they all dismissed it today.

Even Marner, when asked about his family and what's happened to them the last 24 hours, chose to focus instead on the love and affection that they receive from most fans in the city.

Even if the pressure of the market is too much for most of them, they aren't going to use it as an excuse, which at the very least, I respect. Even if it's a very predictable response to what was always going to be talking point today.
