Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Did you even read what I said?

they valued 7-8 years of Marner higher than a few months of Rantanen. That does not mean they value Marner as highly as Rantanen, this is pretty basic stuff.

You seem you know basic English so I assume you're just being purposefully obtuse. I have better things to do with my time then to play these stupid games with you, have a nice night.
Yea, Rantanen was a UFA just like Marner is. Again, it's similar value. Its odd you're so insistent on this rhetoric. The Leafs could have got value back for Marner in the name of Rantanen. Now, Marner is going to walk for free.

man I am sad with how his tenure came to an end.

I was so excited when we drafted him and how he came on to the scene and the first couple of playoff series.

by all accounts he should have been probably the most beloved leaf and probably the greatest Toronto born and drafted player to wear the blue and white and yet we're here now. this franchise truly is cursed. If we won the 2019 series against Boston Kadri never gets traded and we might have won a cup.

with that said I heard some nasty stuff from CJ about how Marner was getting harassed and apparently there were some pretty foul tweets about his newborn son pretty crazy stuff.

people who know the Marners will tell you that he is not resigning here

even if Marner did waive to go to Carolina i don't see the trade happening without Marner agreeing to a contract with the Canes or without Ranta signing with us , if either refused i doubt the deal gets made

Kadri was traded because he couldn't be trusted not to do something moronically stupid in the playoffs.

Lol what an ignorant take.

No, it was a reasonable take based on the other comments.

I’ve literally never heard a person use the term ‘Snowflake’ in my life, I guess that means my life is insular?

Yeah, it does because it is a very common term.

I see it here all the time though, and if I watched Fox News I’m sure I’d hear it there too.

I wouldn't know, I've never seen it here before today and have never watched Fox News.

The term has been used for more than a century, but the modern use of it apparently originated with a line in the book and movie Fight Club, so literally millions of people heard it there.

The Guardian declared it the defining insult of 2016 (link below) and the Collins English Dictionary listed it as one of the words of the year, also for 2016.

If you haven't heard it you must have been living a very insular life, or living under a rock somewhere.

I don’t have cable. Just use streaming sites and it’s not like I don’t expose myself to other things. I live in East GTA, Bowmanville lol. Don’t know if you’ve been there but it’s not exactly multicultural central lol. I’m just saying when I’m out I don’t hear people randomly calling each other a snowflake and honestly I keep my socials pretty private to just things I like.

Again I don’t understand why the hell you care so much or seem to be so offended that I don’t know the term. To each your own.

I'm not offended, I just find it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to believe.

As I said in my post above:

It ain't new, and it is a commonly used term.

Iol yea I live under a rock for sure. 4 pro sports teams, the seat of the federal government, the most internationally significant city in this hemisphere.. real backwater town tho

Crazy how some people assume their bubble is everyone else’s reality too

I think he's talking about the value of the players to the game of hockey, not within the context of an extraordinarily unusual trade sitiation in a vacuum.

Neither or both you would think.

From what I understand Ranta put Leafs on his list he would sign with. But I tend to agree, if Marner wasn't also going to sign up to a Canes extension the thing probably falls through.

I guesss you never know, Canes got themselves into a pretty bizarre situation this year. Does seem very doubtful though.

The poster just has an ego that he doesn't want to let up. He wants to blame everything on Marner yet he's conflicted because the value of Marner on the market is high. It contradicts his fanboy narrative. Leafs could have gotten Rantanen for Marner. That's roughly the value we can get for Marner if we traded him.

It really is sad. The title "core 4" is a joke now but on paper, its a ridiculously talented group to have. All in their prime years, high production, made the playoffs after so long, finally won a round. Lots of highs. It will always feel like a "what if" for any one of these 9 years tbh. Aside from 2016 and round 2 against florida last time, i never really felt like we got beat because the other team dominated us. It always felt like the leafs lost to themselves.

Its fun to imagine though. A cup with these 4, kadri, rielly. Mitch would have been beloved. Hometown kid, drafted developed. Then another swedish star and a small town american kid. All 3 of our stars drafted and developed and an established star, someone finally choosing the leafs in free agency, hometown guy tavares signs.

Welp. Maybe in another life.

But also, f*** the "fans" that harass these guys off the ice. And their families. Saying foul shit to a newborn? Thats just sick. At the end of the day, this is a game and its a job to them. We may be passionate and sure special superstar players like sid breathe for the game. But thats not everyone and they have every right to live outside of the game and disconnect from it. Some people really believe players are machines and should be living only for the game. Its completely fine for this to just be a job. In fact, some might call it healthy boundaries.

Not everyone is sid. Thats what makes him special. Thats the exception not the rule.

That simple adjustment likely cost them the series. That and the loss of Stolarz
I really didn't understand why he was so stubborn about it? And his justification that line mixing didn't help was odd because giving them only 1 period probably is why it didn't help. Or, just keep mixing until you find something that works? Maybe try this in the regular season so guys have chemistry with more than just 1 person.

Also, did we forget that marner-tavares and nylander-matthews have been successful lines in the past? Practically for the first few years of their careers? Coulda used some of that old school willy-matty magic circa 2017

Marner re-signs and I'd say he'll go down as the franchise's all-time leading point getter (yes, over Matthews) and will have a strong case for him to be considered the greatest Leaf of all time (another distinction he'd battle Matthews with over).

Marners are near impossible to replace, and extremely hard to find.

I'm vastly disappointed with him in certain respects (no showing in Game 7s for one), but the idea of him not being in the lineup any longer leaves a gaping hole.

Superstars players dont impact the game like an nba player, or quarterback does. Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux won cups on dynasties. Hazel won a cup on a stacked red wings team. Kane and Toews had a deep blackhawks squad surrounded by. Kucherov and hedman etc.

Do you know the Marner’s or are you just making stuff up?

I think management and fans are going to feel worlds apart. The leafs lost to a great panthers team that'll probably cruise to another finals.

I don't think management wants to let him go. 100 point players don't grow on trees. Only way he doesn't return is if:
1. Marner asks for too much money or wants a full NTC/NMC. Or...
2. Marner wants out.

Who are you guys going to fill his position with; Matt Duchene, Ehlers? Like, I said, I think management and fans are going to feel worlds apart on this 1. You can't make decisions on emotion. You don't have better options out there.

Explain how the islanders instantly went to back to back conf finals once tavernas left…
