Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

That was the moment Mitch Marner showed he's a a leader of men. Too bad he didn't show it earlier, he prolly would have gotten his 15.5 million a year. ;)

That wasn't leading. He was one of the worst players and was yelling at his team. If Roberts was yelling at them it was after a big shift or after he almost got a goal.

He is a leader of nothing. He did nothing posoitive to get the team over the hump. He should lead his ass out of this market.
Worse than that, Mitch Marner might even be the hump.

Wasn't it obvious I was joking?

If I was Tanev or Carlo or McCabe, guys who eat pucks and get physical abuse shift after shift, I'd knock him out at that point. How dare he open his little yapper when they cant enter the opposition zone and create any kind of pressure. He bailed on so many players because he saw a hit was coming. If he had DOmi's heart of TWTW, we wouldnt be having this discussion

He certainly wanted to look like a leader of men. Difference in an actual leader rof men is you know leading.

There is a reason a rantenen or Draisaitl doesn't need this silly optics. They actually go out and lead by example.

If the Leafs let him walk, Marner will probably sign with Ottawa Or Montreal if offered a contract both upcoming teams and take less from other offers, mostly out of spite to the Leafs. Good bye

A real kick in the face to the Leafs would be if he signed in Carolina.

I would let him walk and see what any combination of
Boeser
Ehlers
Bennet
Marchand
Ekblad
Are up to
Let Cowan play next year with runway. Let ALEX STEEVES HAVE MORE THAN 2 GAMES!
try and buy Rielly out and see what we can do.JT can come back at 3 mill if he wants but we can’t bring Marner back the relationship is broken on both sides

Remember when Marner was called "the best winger in playoff hockey" over the last 4 years backed up by a wall of advanced stats jargon?

His fanboys are truly something else.
I do remember that. And I can't help but wonder where all the "he's well liked in the dressing room" people are today.

First you decide if you want to keep him or not. Sounds like you want to keep him, how much are you willing to spend on him?

Marner is gone. Even if for some crazy reason the leafs decided we don’t want to lose him, he’s not signing here. He’s walking, it’s completely out of the leafs hands now. They’ve lost the asset for nothing and they have themselves to blame.

Now they need to start preparing for what this team will look like moving forward. Do you sign guys this year in a weak UFA or retool for one year and pray McDavid hits UFA July 2026?

Does it matter if its 1-2 million more? It barely makes a difference to the cap next year — it doesn’t matter. People just want change and want him gone. I’m just saying that change is going to mean regression. I'm not sure how you replace such a pivotal player that gets you to the playoffs every year in this year's free agency.

The woes of the leafs was the cap never going up because of covid, the Leafs fundamentally lack depth. And if you don't want to blame covid - then blame the Tavares signing - the leafs are fundamentally a flawed structure team which is managements fault, not our core players.
