Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Watvhed the first period of game 6 back.

I noticed Marner finally was going to the front of the net more consistently with Matthews and Knies, instead of standing on the perimeter. He has alot to learn about this area though, because he looked a bit lost and inexperienced there. BUT it did look more effective then him standing on the perimeter up high.

The best chance was his set up for Knies...which again was when all three were down low.

Its not rocket science, Mitch needs to be down low with Knies and Matthews. Ive said it all season. None of this "high in the zone" bull$$%$.

Three levels of playmaking:
1 - making the obvious pass that everyone sees.
2 - making the difficult pass that most can’t identify quickly enough to hit the opening.
3 - there is no play, so you do something to open up a pass and make it.

That Marner pass was the top level of playmaking. He turned what could have been nothing into something dangerous.
It was the simple, obvious pass and Matthews expected it.

Its the elite release that created the goal. That was a classic Matthews release hes famous for and why he is maybe the best 5v5 goal scorer ever.

Marner even gave all the credit to Matthews for his elite shot for the goal. Which i was pleasantly impressed by with Marner.

His interviews are horrendous - they make him come across incredibly unlikeable. So strange. I would have to imagine it would be really easy to give the fans what they want from an interview perspective. Much harder than to give them what they want on the ice.

Either way, I do hope he absolutely has the best night of his life tonight.
Why does any one care honestly? It’s just an interview.

If he and the others perform, it literally doesn’t matter how they come across in interviews. Some players like doing them, some players hate doing them.

I personally am okay with Marner’s interviews. They are real, they aren’t some cliched bullshit answer just to appease the fans. And I’ve mentioned it a few times but the reporters here suck. They ask some of the worst questions.

“Hey you made a good play, what did you see on that play?” Mark Masters literally asks that same question EVERY interview. Ask something unique, ask about his kid. Idk, to me Toronto media doesn’t really ask quality questions that can get players to show their personality. It’s boring. And the ones that do answer, their answers are so rehearsed. Matthews answers to me don’t feel or sound genuine most of the time. Stolarz, Benoit, Rielly, Nylander probably the best.

He was actually doing a lot that you have pointed out that he never does to his credit he was first on the fore✅ and tying guys up behind the net as well

Normal toe drag snipe but I don’t think he can elevate shots with ease

Yeah he’s awful at them, there’s no secret about that. And this year he’s even more reserved closed off compared to previous years

How did he get to the point where it was an easy pass? That’s the elite part.

Just because Matthews scored a nice goal doesn’t mean somebody else didn’t put him in a great position to have a scoring chance.

Most players just chop that puck in deep. Some might shield it and battle until support arrives. Marner pulled the puck back l up ice and out of the zone. That dragged the Florida D forward, while Matthews was driving full speed the other way. He put the puck on Matthews’ stick in an extremely advantageous position.

There are a lot of posters who simply dont want to get drawn into the stupidity of judging a player for 1 to 3 games a year... there are still quite a few people , i think 70% is a fair assessment, that want Mitch to stay.

You only have to look at the poll that was on here a few months back less than 30% of the voters wanted Mitch to go.... yes to criticize an elite two way forward 100 point player for not being a goal scorer or a banger and crasher is stupid... most people dont want to be drawn into a debate with people who lack common sense.
Who do you think you're fooling? I genuinely can't tell if you're more interested in calling people names or defending Marner.

I've insulted you twice? LOL, not even once muffin. 90%...? ... tell me when it is my turn to BS.
Muffin isn't overly insulting, but going three for three is pretty funny. I'm sure you'll go four for four, but I can promise you I won't see it. Not interested in reading posts from someone who's only two tricks are namecalling and pretending they don't understand a four year old argument.

LOL ... OMFG ... where in those quotes did I direct anything directly towards you as you claim I did? I didn't? Oh I see ... so you make shit up to play the victim card ... bravo....
