I’ve been saying it for a while. Put JT with Willy and Marner,

Give Matthews Domi and Knies, put Patches back with McMann.

You then have three scoring lines. There was one time I think last season they tried JT-Willy and Marner together for a shift or two and they played really well. I’d like to see it again.

We saw the one shift they had JT with Marner and Knies not only did they have a ton of Possesion, but the cycle game was solid and Knies almost scored at the end of a cycle when the pass came through from down low. Matthews and Marner’s game don’t really compliment each other any more. Matthews wants to score off the rush, Marner likes possession and passing, JT likes to cycle, he and Marner’s game are way more complimentary

Matthews and Marner both need to ratchet up their games. I don't think they've even really been terrible, but your leaders need to lead when you're at this point in a series. You just want to see more compete from these guys. Get pucks on net, look for a dirty goal. When Bobrovsky is dialed in, it's tough to beat him clean.

I would be genuinely surprised if we are talking about a Marner/Matthews statement game after game 5.

Call it a crisis in confidence - I just don't think they have the ability to elevate to a game-winning level right now.

Yeah, it's a bit of a recurring trend, isn't it? Other team finds another gear, overtakes us in the passing lane, and we can't match their intensity in the big moments. You'd just hope that at some point a switch would flip in their heads and you'd see some of that piss and vinegar that fuels chowderheads like Marchand.

Isn’t Marner above PPG? How has his production fallen off a cliff. To me it’s pretty clear Matthews is killing that line. The play dies on his stick and when it does land on his stick he doesn’t score. Yesterday I think either Knies or Marner made an amazing cross seam pass to him, he was one on one with Bobrovsky and lost that battle. Shot right into his glove. When did Matthews start losing one on one Duals against goalies this bad?

I’ve said this all playoffs. If Matthews gives you even slightly below average shooting percentage this series would have been over or at the very least 3-1 heading back to Toronto. Let me remind you, Matthews has never scored a goal in the second round as a leaf. With JT scoring he is now the only remember of the core 4 not to. Mitch has an awful game last night, but this hyperbolic blaming of him being the root cause for failure is not only emotional but it’s getting old.

Thinking this whole thing with Marner not engaging enough/playing the perimeter/not shooting goes back a long way though, right? All I said was Nylander is up high like Marner on his line, Max and JT, Knies and Matthews, it how a line is structured but apparently that's an offensive comment to the delicate. On hits and blocks, suddenly they don't matter.
