LOL, take it easy there chief. Marner's been good, but he hasn't been THAT good. Wait until the playoffs are over before chirping would be my advice. GLG!!

Why would I? If the knock against Marner is he sucks in the playoffs, wouldn't it be logical that him playing above point per game while scoring a clutch goal in round two deserve some crow to be eaten? Or should we ignore the facts and live in delusion and misery when the player in question is playing well?

M and M are playing against elite defensive talent this series. They get the hardest match ups no matter who they play. Marner has always been a play maker and the person who is the goal scorer on his line has never scored a goal against the Panthers in the playoffs yet Marner is still over a point a game. Set up the game winner last game and scored the game winner today. People should be happy he is producing. Leafs don't make it this far if Marner had no points in the playoffs.

Someone said they record every game. Tell me how many times Marner stood in front of the goalie. Because I didn't see him there once all third. And I never see him there...which I've pointed out for a long long time.

Its all about going to the net. Berube reiterated it before this game ...yet Marner still is never ever there.

But hey... it doesnt matter that he doesnt right? Yet... he doesnt score if Knies isnt there today? Hmm interesting.

Nylander doesn't stay in front of the net and still great and amaizing in that serie... So why Marner should stand in front of the net to get credit for anything?

in 2 game, that line already score 3x more goal than what mcdavid line did in 7 game last year in final vs Barkov. It's probably the toughest line to play against in the entire league

Wrong. Historically he's a 100 point player for the regular season and the first 4 games of the playoffs, then his production drops off by more than half. 3 points in the last 4 games isn't terrible, but it's not all that different from what we've seen before either.

I have zero complaints about his play so far and as I keep saying, wait until the playoffs are over before handing out grades, and definitely wait before chirping. You sound like those people who are ready to give him a blank cheque in November and they sounded just as dumb as those people who were talking as if he was worthless just a few hours ago. All I'm saying to you and everyone else is ... take it easy.

Wrong. Historically he's a 100 point player for the regular season and the first 4 games of the playoffs, then his production drops off by more than half. 3 points in the last 4 games isn't terrible, but it's not all that different from what we've seen before either.

If Marner doesn't get any points in the first 4 games, do they make it to game 7? Actually.. Better question. What does Marner have to do to warrant a new contract for the Leafs? He's over a point per game. Leads the Leafs in playoff points. Faces the toughest opposition. Plays PK. Nominated for Selke. Matthews hasn't scored a single goal in the second round of a playoffs in his career and 99% of people here had zero problems giving him a blank cheque. Remember (as you mention) regular season means nothing.

You are right, Nylander doesnt do it either. I've said this often in the past. But Nylander has speed Marner doesnt and Nylander has strength Marner doesnt have. Nylander has a shot that Marner doesnt have.

Don't take my word for it, look at edge stats Nylander vs Marner. Look at this dramatic difference.

Marner only makes plays from stationary areas because hes too slow to get away from attackers. The difference in skill sets is huge.

As long as the team is winning it doesn't matter if Matthews or Benoit scores. Just win.

He has a point a game and his line played many minutes tonight.

I'm betting he is injured and can't do all he normally does, however, he is still very strong with his stick, winning battles and keeping the opposition of the scoreboard. This is invaluable especially in the playoffs where every team will present multiple threats each game.

Just win, that's all. If he captains a Cup he will be immortalized.

Happy we got mitch but if it was possible i wanted rantanen instead(and as a Swede i prefer no finnish players on the team, so Dallas is yuck). It is also a possability he would suck here. But on paper he would be better right now since Matthew forgot how to score goals.

But marner could get 5+points a couple of games and make everyone shut up. This aint over.

I actually don't think marner or matthews have played bad this playoffs. More points than the 8 before. And defensively and on the pk, mitch has been great. He has flashes every game.

My stance with him is the same it always has been. He is a crucial part of our makeup and losing him would be a mistake. He's too talented. However, there are teams that have won a cup without him so his leaving does not automatically mean we will be a much lesser team. I would love to keep him, but if what he's asking for is 14, even 13, then let him go. 14 million is for a player that dominates, puts the tean on his back and takes a game over. Have not seen that from mitch. So to me, he hasn't earned that.

And these players don't shy away from demanding the money they want. So we can also demand more production. You want 14 mill? Take over a game, a series, be the best player on the ice every game. He's been good imo, but not 13 or 14 million good.

The results aren't reflecting his play which has been mediocre at best. Matthews is holding the fort up with Knies but they are handicapped with Marner hiding in witness protection both games. Near the end Matthews could hardly move because he is doing double duty. Wouldn't be surprised he has to sit a game.

Nobody can replay that game and focus Marner the individual and say. He is a game changer. Nylander yes. Knies yes. Matthews yes. JT is doing pretty good even. Marner is a passenger and it's just the way it is. Not built for these types of series
