Maybe if they get cooked in a game.

The issue with that is that they are very good together shutting down the opposing teams top line.

Mixing the lines might create a lottle more offense, but you sacriice the defensive part of the game and then nothing really changes.

The Leafs havn't had too much of a problem scoring so far. If they lose a couple in a row and struggle to score I think that is the time to possibly consider it

Yeah if they struggle to score, I hope Berube considers it. I've been wanting Berube to try M&M apart from each other since the beginning of the season, it never happened so TBH I stopped even thinking about it. I wouldn't do it right now though, not after the way the team played last night. Those first 2 periods were so good!

Marner was pretty bad last night, looked scared again. Got the assist, and a nice block at the end, but he needs to be better. If Matthews isn’t scoring, he needs to make it happen some other way. This is what guys that want $12-$13 million are supposed to do.

The worst of the 3 is leading the playoffs in scoring. Marner has never looked like a $13 million player and neither has Matthews since he scored his 69th.

We can put Matthews in the strict shutdown role since we all agree he's terrible offensively nowadays and start utilizing Marner in a more offensive role. May be a bit of offense yet to be unlocked just yet.

Hey, Nylander's been producing with Domi, Holmberg, McMann, Tavares, Patches, and every other player they've thrown at him. Why not give Marner, the one who wants 13-14 mil, the opportunity to show how he can carry his own line as well?

Mitch has no more offensive gears in his game. He´s always been a pass first player, a playmaker not a scorer. Muffin for a shot, doesn´t like to go into traffic and play in the dirty areas.
I fail to see where he can be utilized in a more offensive role. Maybe he can start chirping.

I don't think so at all - Mitch has a vast abundance of natural talent to fall back on. He could possibly be very effective in that role, it's just that he's literally never even been tried there.

He's undershot the puck his entire career. Somehow I doubt that probably, it's not like he's a world beater shot. I want him to shoot more yes, but I think you're overrating the result at least in comparison to being our best player.

Marner is good. We have seen this playoffs when he's a complimentry player and playing passanger to Nylander, we have a chance to win.
With Nylander driving the bus and protecting Marner from being afraid of his own shadow, we are more successful.

We (I included) have been begging for more production from him but the reality of how this team is constructed is they are asking so much of the top line defensively. PK, dzone draws, matchup vs the other teams top players. Not only does that take away from offensive usage but it also just tires you out.

If we're asking this much of them defensively it's gonna be hard for them to produce the way we all want them to. Having a 3rd line you can't trust in your own end, especially when you're 2nd line isn't very good defensively either is a glaring issue.

That is a false narrative to support them not pulling their weight theyre asked to out produce the opposition we can only line match at home chief himself said he doesn’t want to get caught up in that as it distrupts the flow of the team so yes theyre tasked with being defensively responsible they have our best defensive forwards at every position is it too much to expect that with the offence theyre paid to produce with these 10 mil plus contracts ??

Brother we have a 35 million dollar 1st line.

Knies 8.5, Matthews 13.25, Marner 11mil(soon to be more or gone) Knies has been the best on that line to add salt to the wound.

I don't want to hear about no defence, PK, dzone draws, matchups.

Isn't a 35 million line supposed to be the problem offensively? Tough matchups? What about the 1st line being a tough matchup?

Marner gets a large pass from me compared to Matthews, but it's still not good enough. It's 35 million dollars on the same line. We need McDavid Drai point totals for that to be worth it.
