Why is he worth Rantanen's money again?

I'm not accepting anymore of these f***ing fairlytales about Marner allegedly being a better player. He deserves less and he should be paid less.
If he performs like him, why not? If he doesn’t he can STFU about asking for a ridiculous 14 million

He got 12.5 tax free.
Not the same
Not true. He doesn’t have to pay state income tax which averages about 4.5 %, but tgey have other taxes in Texas as well as federal taxes.
Not even worth considering

ETA: States and Provinces with high tax rates obviously have many public benefits that non income tax states have, so that has to be worth something.

What does that feel like? You get rid of one of your best players, cuz the perceived 'cost' is too high - and he comes back and torches you like that in your Game 7...?!??

I don't wanna beg that karma on us, but I'd f***in' walk off a cliff.. lmaoooooooo.....

Look what Rantanen did tonight - 3 goals 1 assist in game 7. That is money well spent

How could Marner possibly think he’s worth more than that guy.
With those stats is any player worth that?

This has been went over a million times. Dallas pays like 38% tax. Toronto like 54%

1.) all of his signing bonuses are taxed at 38%. He didn’t get full sb I don’t think

2.) He gets 50% of his salary plus at 38% instead of 54%.

The road games they would be taxed similarly.

Facts are facts. I thought Marner got overpaid in comparison to rantanen last time.

But 12.5 state tax free isn’t the same as 12.5 in Toronto.

Marner also shouldn’t get the same as rantanen dollar for dollar as he scores less goals and points.

There were people earlier in this thread calling Rantanen a $5M player without Mackinnon. No exaggeration, no hyperbole.
Haha indeed, that rings a big bell. I believe the quote was even more LOL than that, is was something like Rantanen without MacKinnon is worth 5 million "at best".

If you ask the Dallas GM, I do believe he'd say that what Rantanen did in just that one period alone tonight was worth more than 5 million. What a performance!!

Mitch is a great player but I’m having a moment of quiet reflection tonight imagining a Matthews, Knies, Rantanen line.

Well, let’s go with the ones that brought us to the dance. Come on Mitch, this is the team they say you’ll wilt against. Prove em wrong.
Avs had no issue moving him, what were they not seeing?

He pays federal tax but no state income tax, however he does pays other taxes like county, school etc. Once again, if Marner wants to play in Ontario he is obviously fine with the tax situation and all the benefits associated with those taxes. so he should not be asking for a higher percentage of the cap.
The bar is set and if he wants 12.5 he has two weeks to earn it. That’s pretty darned generous considering he has lived up to his current contract.

Mitch's contract ceiling is $12Mx8

Full f***ing stop no debate. In a perfect world he's not making what Rantanen makes.
He would consider 12m a pay cut.

I think his current cap percentage takes him to 12.78m.

He won’t take anything under 13m imho.

17% of 12 million dollars is over 2 million dollars. how much property tax do you think he is paying?

It’s not the same bar. It has never been the same bar.

NY, California TOR always end up paying higher prices. It’s just not the same.
It never has been.
