Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Part 3758391849

I agree it’ll be hard but maybe push come to shove Mitch can be swayed. But the point still stands, Mitch will have suitors from both good and bad teams. I don’t think his playoff numbers are going to scare any teams away from wanting a player of his calibre.

Mitch has had success at every turn of his career, at Men’s worlds, at 4 nations, in junior with London. It hasn’t worked out in Toronto, so it’s probably true this maybe isnt the place for him at the NHL level
Speaking for a team that s***s, the Sharks, I think that Marner would thrive in a non-hockey market in which his only goal would be to improve a bottom-feeder like us. There won’t be any pressure on him to deliver in tight situations and such, and he gets to be ”the big dog” too, not having a Willy and Matthews that can overshadow him etc. And, it seems like a lot of fans thinks that Matthews drags him down, so maybe he can reach that 120p plateau?

There’s never consistency or equal blame it’s always one or the other. Marner up top on the PP was so indecisive last night. That one in the second where he and Nylander both refused to shoot for about 40 seconds and play catch with the puck drove me nuts
Sorry Francis but that indecisiveness is what happens when 34 is often the premier and primary target and he's nowhere to be found! Or he's not moving around to get open Sure Mitch can shoot and he does sometimes, but most of those shots are into a clogged up slot with 2 Leafs and 3 Senators and 1 more Senator moving up to the point and limiting even more sightlines to the net.

Problem is I don't think that Matthews is a guy he wants to play with, I think he's looking at that Sharks team with real interest tbh.

This is my thing too, I don’t get the feeling players are dying to come play with Matthews. I could see Marner to the sharks as well. That team is loaded with young talent. Haha and we know Marner loves the Marleau family, so they probably will push hard for him to go there LOL

You are correct but if your trying to imply Knies hasn’t been the best of the 3 you’ve lost me Hes probably been our best forward period let alone on a line that is underperforming

It's just relative to expectations I think.

3 goals, 0 assists, 5 games played.

1 goal 5v5 and nothing else.

He's been good, but I just think people get so frustrated with the core that they think they suck, they just suck relative to what they can do.

Is there a line that has ever one a cup or multiple series for that matter with a corsi in the 40s?

Lol here are Mackinnon and Mcdavid playoff on ice corsi's to compare to Marners 38%. As you can see their corsi are very very very good.

No clue, corsi is not a great metric

Why are you ignoring that you hate when Marner shoots from far away, but you think it is great that Pinto's line is?

Come on... don't be a coward and answer the question.

Okay, xgf and xga now matter? I was told all season by Marner fans that xgf and xga don't matter!

What's your thoughts on these Marner "on ice" stats for xgf and xga of Marner with and without Matthews this past season.

Look forward to your response.

Marner is at 55% xGF, glad he is helping the team win.

His G% is 83.3!!!!!

Killing it!!!!!!

This is gold... now you have resorted to evading my questions?

You Marner fans keep going in circles.

During the season, i indicated Marners xgf are dreadful without Matthews.

You Marner fans said Xgf dont matter.

Now you are pointing to xGF to support your argument for him.

But when asked to comment on Marners xGF without Matthews... you evade the question.

You came in talking a big game ("duhh im shocked you still post")but your true colors show now that you are ignoring follow up questions.

Lol 37% Corsi doesnt matter.

Take a hike.

Kypreos was just saying Marner and his missus are expecting their baby any day now and could impact his availability for Game 6 or 7. Real life is real life but what a plot twist that would be!

Do you care to explain, how this is cherry picked?
Because it's an insanely specific piece of information that has no real relevance to how Marner brings impact in the first place.
And why this cherry picked stat looked worse for Marner and not the other core 4?
General playstyle, the roles they had for the strategy they were executing, and the neutral zone 'shot' skewing the results of a tiny sample.

Congrats to Mitch, some things are bigger than hockey! If his wife is in labour I expect him to focus on that.

According to some, him being out for game 6 & 7 or one or the other should increase our odds to win.

xGF%, G%, whatever stats you want, he's doing great, sorry it hurts you.

The funny thing is Marner, like the rest of the core has actually been 'fine' for most of the series, especially the first three games (the second line had a much better game 4).

The problem is the Leafs guys, Marner included, haven't taken over the ice and looked like one of the best players in the league.

Stars should be able to carry a team, even if it's only for a few periods at minimum

Maybe, maybe not. He’ll get the biggest contract this summer no doubt.
No team is paying him Draisaitl money...he'll get $12.5 million per if he's lucky, but around $12 million should be where he's at, similar to Rantanen...but I wouldn't want the Leafs to pay him $12 x 8 if he underperforms in these playoffs again.

It’s cap percentage he’ll get paid by.
