Besides the fact his linemate can't score or set a tone, I didn't like him on the PP. Not assertive and shoot the f***ing puck, when you have open point shots off movement. Also, the cute backhand passes with zero zip on them, that doesn't work.

Someone needs to drill something into his head:

STOP LOOKING FOR MATTHEWS!!!

Marner has 6 shots in 5 games. I want him to have 6 shots in the next two games (if it goes like that).

He needs to understand setting matthews up is no longer the goal, it won’t provide goals and this year it isn’t even providing dangerous “almost” chances. He needs to start shooting, and looking for knies down low

Id suggest going him with Tavares and Robertson if he continues to want to playmake for others. Give him two goal scorers and he has to make that work, otherwise he just isn’t a good enough playoff playmaker then and needs to pivot his game away from this.

If his passes dont convert to goals, then he need to shoot more. He is almost our forth best goalscorer (beaten by 2g from Knies).

I dunno, I don't blame Marner that much for this meltdown. We saw in the 4 Nations if everything is going, this guy can make a small area play to a teammate streaking to the net and that can be a difference maker. Or he can find a guy who gets open from coverage and that'll make a difference. Who was going to do that on his line tonight if it wasn't going to be Knies?
Difference between 4 Nations and now…. There’s no Crosby, Mackinnon McDavid Makar, Stone Doughty. Veteran leaders that take on the brunt of the pressure. Here there is no leader like those guys and he’s part of the leadership group with the expectation to also get the job done.

Where’s the posters calling out Nylander and why are they not here calling out Marner? Weird fans

There’s never consistency or equal blame it’s always one or the other. Marner up top on the PP was so indecisive last night. That one in the second where he and Nylander both refused to shoot for about 40 seconds and play catch with the puck drove me nuts

This is why the fan base didn’t want to sign him to his demands.

Honestly, those stats are unbelievable. Not that any of our core is that useful in the playoffs, but how does he shrink so much to the point of looking like he doesn't actually want to be there?

Games playing out as many predicted. Slowly disappears as the series goes deeper. Time to flip the script dude. Things are not going to get easier in round #2.

That must be infuriating. Feels like the leafs should get a real PPQ that can be a threat with their shot.

Can't wait to watch this guy pump us for three points a night when he's wearing another team's sweater. All the talent in the world, but simply cannot be counted on when he's up against an enemy who's back is to the wall.

Last night was not his worst elimination game, but as soon as we hit OT in game 4 the light bulb went off and our little superstar turned back into a pumpkin. He and Matthews just drag each other down.

I hope Marner dominates tomorrow night and pushes us through to round 2. That said, I hope I don't see any more posts about how Marner is so smart, he can even be trusted to play D which is why we can run 5 forwards on the PP.

Sorry but if in order to unlock Marner's "clutch" ability it requires playing with McDavid then I'm not so convinced of it. The McDavid halo effect can also make Hyman score 50 goals and all kinds of clutch goals in the postseason.

Last nights goal against was not on Marner. What do you want him to do there? Zero back check from any of the other forwards and that give away was Galchenyuk level from Matthews.

Even if there was a defenceman back there that’s a 2 on 1 goal all day with no one coming back to back check. I don’t think you can hang the goal on Marner or Stolarz.

He tried last night .. bottom line when games pick up to that level of straight line speed he cant keep up .. that line was so badly tilted it was ridiculous .. Sens just dominated da ice everytime Matty and Mitch were on da ice .. they are TOO slow .. and neither has ever been able too produce their entire lives of playing comptetive hockey in a lead role .. their histories won't change .. we need Stolly to throw a shut out, our D to dominate and a goal or two from 4th line to win another game .. like I told you guys core 4 aren't gonna get it done

1 pt in 2 games now after going up 3-0 and even that point be barely did anything

He is back to mini mitch unfortunately after 3 great games to start the series

If he is serious and committed to being a leaf next year he should come out blazing for game 6 and help us get the win

If hes checked out and ready to chase a bag somewhere else he will play the same unoticable and soft games as he did in game 4 and 5

Well peewee teaches you to take the pass defending a 2 on 1...

That said my guess is he expected Nylander to give support and take that guy

My guess is like yours, he probably expected the back checker to disrupt the play since he was already directly in front of the puck carrier after the give away, I think if he tries to move over and take pass all he does is end up screening Stolarz anyways at that point. He got put in a pretty shit position.
