Matthews is shooting at 6.7%. I'd argue Mitch needs to shoot more himself, he only has 4 shots. Feeding Matthews isn't as automatic as it once was, be a little more selfish.
Mitch absolutely needs to be more greedy and shoot it. It sucks to see a chance end without a shot registering

I play in a super casual soccer league and I've actually noticed I do the same thing. I always look to pass and almost never shoot. Stupid, I don't know when I became like this

A lot of the time you get into a routine with your teammates. And it just becomes habitual

I'm confused about 'top line' and 'toughest matchups'.

The Matthews line was playing against their checking line last night, while the Tavares line was playing against Stutzle, Tkachuk, and Giroux, and both of the beautiful setups by Nylander were against that line.
I never understood why they act as if we get last change on the road when we don’t get to line match as the visitors

Most minutes Marner 5v5 per:

Amadio - 2.6 mill
Greig - 3.25 mill
Pinto - 3.75 mill
For next couple years

Next year leafs line approx:
Knies - 9 million
Matthews - 13.6 million
Marner - 12 million

Is there an easier assignment in the league right now? Leafs number 1 line, considering what they make and will make next year, should be toying with these guys. It's scary to think how they will perform vs real top shut down opponents.

Mitch Marner

line when opposing Sens #1 defender Sanderson:

Absolutely Abysmal!:
Corsi: 30%
Fenwick: 36%
Shots for 11, shots against 15 - SF -45%
Xgf: 1.04, xGa: 1.61 - xgf: 39%
Scoring chances for: 10, Scoring chances against: 21 - SCF 32%
High Danger Scoring Chances for: 4 against: 9 - 30%

Draisaitl
Comparatively, Draisaitl without home advantage, against a superior team, is absolutely destroying his primary opponent in all categories.

Primary opponent (Moore, Danault, Foegele, Doughty, Anderson)

Absolutely Dominant!:

Corsi: 80%
Fenwick: 75%
Shots for 29, shots against 12 - SF -70.3%
Xgf: 2.69, xGa: 0.79 - xgf: 77%
Scoring chances for: 26, Scoring chances against: 5 - SCF 83%
High Danger Scoring Chances for: 7 against: 3 - 70%

Hmm guess it's just a coincidence that Draisaitls Playoff stats and team success smashes the Leafs?

Or ..is it because someone is overpaid on the Leafs #1 unit and doesn't perform like other elite players paid similarly?

i also believe a guy like marner might just enjoy passing to teammates who score rather than scoring himself.

They may find setting up the offence, using the best options available and controlling the flow in the ozone to be a more fun/better way to play in their eyes

I've played soccer with people who say the exact same thing to me, they love creating attacks and using their teammates, but if they have a good scoring chance their instinct isn't to instantly shoot but opt to pass it to someone else because it might be a bit better of a scoring chance.

He’s always been extremely unselfish, its part of what makes him such a popular teammate.

Corsi warrior! How many cups are won by players with the best corsi numbers lmfao.

I’m just glad no one is feeding into the divisive posts anymore. I think every poster here understands, we don’t care what Marner, Matthews, JT’s or Nylander’s advanced stats are as long as they a) score real points, b) win

Lol... @ you are trying to speak for all posters?

Curious - wasn't it you that once posted that you had insider information regarding who Marner was arguing with last playoffs? Info you recieved from a relative or a connection who was working for MLSE? Information that I proved made no sense because it didnt align with the timeline of events whatsoever.

Clearly nothing you say can be believed. Oh by the way lying about having insider information is also not permitted per board policies.. just FYI going forward...since you must have overlooked that before posting about your make belief MLSE connection.

Haha from the so called coach Antro? Guy has probably never coached a damn thing in his life.

Ahhh there he is! The troll of trolls, Trying to bait into a suspension. It’s not going to work on me.

It’s the only thing Antro knows how to do.

And there you go conflating two separate things.

You better watch it, don’t want you to get banned from your third Marner thread. I hope you remind yourself of HF Board rules because I seem to recall you being the only person who was banned from threads, not me.

But Marner is worth less🙄

FYI, I've been posting for a while that elite players boost the stats of those around them. I've also repeatedly pointed out:

1) Marner’s 5v5 production becomes pedestrian when he’s not playing alongside Matthews. There is plenty of data to prove this.

2) Matthews, on the other hand, not only sustains his elite production without Marner but actually improves in some cases.

I’ve also referenced Tulsky’s research, which shows that a player’s production is most highly influenced by their linemates.

This was also observed by NHL posters on this board and Avalanche fans with MacKinnon and Rantanen: when Rantanen was separated from MacKinnon, his stats plummeted, just like Marner’s do without Matthews. Except Rantanen didn't have a Tavares level center like Marner.

If anything, Rantanen’s noticeable drop-off without MacKinnon supports criticisms of Marner, rather than the opposite.

When the Rantanen trade happened, I said in many threads that it will be interesting to see how Rantanens numbers will be effected and that Leaf Management should pay close attention too.

....struck a chord have I? Faking insider information, that is bottom of the barrel desperation. And a tag you will permanently wear.

I have coached... not a lie. A hobby message board certainly isn't important enough for me to come on here and fake information.

Back to the convo.

Never said I have MLSE insider information and the fact that you keep perpetuating that crock of shit is bottom of the barrel desperation and pus behaviour if you ask me.

So i wont be able to find a post with you saying anything remotely of this nature regarding who Nylander was yelling at in the Boston series?

Matthews is shooting at 6.7%.
So he is basically hovering around his usual S% in the playoffs (7,9% over the last 4 post-seasons). Feeding it to Matthews has never been the solution in the playoffs. Marners shot is the weakest out of all the core 4 members, but that doesn't mean it is bad. He should shoot it more often.

Wasn't there a stat that Marner shoots 10 feet further on average in the playoffs? That won't help his shooting unless he shoots closer to the net.

Steve is finally right

Ugh, Steve....

"Only once in 16 potential clinching games over the past eight seasons has Matthews managed more than a point.

And that happened just once against Columbus, with one goal and two assists in Game 4 with the Leafs up 2-1 in a best-of-five series."

....spot the error

Including this one it's been nine seasons for one thing.

Also unless the screen shot last game was wrong they are now 1-12 in deciding games. Which adds up to thirteen and not sixteen. I can't be bothered to double check Matthews stats in clinchers but I know it's not good.

So even with a couple mistakes Simmons message unfortunately still resonates as true.
