He's been more involved, far fewer mistakes and high risks this playoff.

This series isn't over but this will be by far the easiest series for them regardless. As a team, the forwards in particular need to continue to raise their level of compete.

Collectively they have like 19 points in three games.
was talking the first 2 games. In a sport where pucks bounce in off skates and multiple players get assists off it. Safe guess Nylander got a couple assists again tonight and this place thinks he had a great game 3? Either way I'll watch this series again in the future but pretty sure I'm right about who actually played well the first two games. Just like re-watching last year's series against Boston where Nylander was probably the worst of our three stars but happened to flip a puck in from the blueline one game and scored another when a Bruin tripped in the corner and he was given a freebie and that's all it took for this place to decide he was a playoff warrior and the other two were bums.

According to Broadcast team, "he missed an open net"....

Please explain what this is saying about Marner relative to Matthews, Knies, Tavares, Nylander.
Let me break it down for ya. When a player misses an open net, no goal is scored and as a result no primary or secondary assists can be awarded relative to other linemates.

As someone who was skeptical of how he would perform in the playoffs, he has certainly exceeded my expectations. I genuinely hope he keeps it up in the later rounds, because it is only going to get harder from here on out.

??

Matthews has generated decent chances on the pp

Marner on the pp is doing his role, facilitating the puck. He isn't going to make those highlight reel plays on the pp because of where he plays, he just needs to make the safe and reliable plays

Nylander has been great as well lol. Huge parts in 2 goals we scored in G1 and showed great skating and passing/vision to find rielly on the backdoor cut

Hell f***ing JT has been dynamite. Win's all the faceoffs, isn't being a total bum on the pp (in fact the opposite), and isn't costing us with brutal mistakes and/or having his slow skating be exposed.

If I had to rank them rn I'd go: JT, Marner, Nylander, Matthews

even though matthews is the lowest, he is still easily having a great series so far, the other three have just been even more spectacular IMO
Matthews has been the best Leaf bar none.I sometimes wonder if I am watching the same game as some of you. 5 points the best defensive forward barr none. Winning puck battles all over the ice. Absolutely dominant in face offs. I'm not sure what more he could possibly do

Imagine having zero credibility left and still obtusing posting like you're anything but a JOKE here. I said it awhile ago, and it's proven so true, more about psychology than hockey with his stalkers.

Since you asked
5V5
1 g (jumping O-zone breakaway)
1 point
2 shots (only 1 shot other than breakaway goal)
4 giveaways (team leader)
1 takeaway
1 hit
Ranks among team lowest in hits,
Yep definitely playing like a 12
Million guy against maybe the weakest team in the playoffs.

Wondering when that Gretzky playmaking we always here about comes into effect? He has around 3 primary assists in past 30+ games.

Hopefully that 5 on 5 primary assist was nice enough for you last night!!!

Another year, another playoffs where Marner leads the team in points.

Noticed Marners new thing is to wait up high until Knies or Matthews win a battle behind the net and then try to float into the slot, hoping for a pass. It's kinda the jumping the zone he does and did for his breakaway goal, but in the oppositions zone. He times Matthews/Knies win battle and then floats into slot. However, he's not going behind the net into corners like Matthews and Knies.

Marner has just 3 primary assists in his past 31 games (pace of 8 in 82 games)

Honest question, is Marners 5v5 playmaking slipping, overrated, slumping or meeting expectations?

Personally I think its his unwillingness to battle closer to the net and him as Mcdavid put it "playing high in the zone".
He did compliment Marner “Obviously two amazing players,” McDavid said. “Reinhart scores lots of goals. He has a great shot and is so smart. Mitch, obviously a playmaker, kind of plays up high in the zone, so definitely a good mix. It's fun to be out there with him for sure.”

That might be the greatest assist I’ve ever seen. Jaw-dropping. Who else could that?

Yeah, but how many overtime points do they have?

Simon Benoit is outscoring Marner, Matthews and Nylander COMBINED in overtime.

You just can’t win with this core. They put up lots of points in regulation time but then they disappear in overtime.
This is actually quite good! Well done

Oh it's over - Vince Carter at the slam dunk contest style.

For the first time since this goofy playoff format, The Leafs have drawn a favorable first round opponent and it's the perfect building block for a nice run.

Berube's coaching style and Treliving's roster obviously helps, but it's nice that we didn't draw a cup favorite in the first round for once.

Neutral visitor, but how confident are you guys that Mitch can produce against a forecheck physical team like Florida in round 2 if it happens?

A lot of that depends on whether Floridas rats are allowed to do their thing or if the rule book is even somewhat used

In any case Mitch isn’t the one getting pasted by the heavy forecheck and the Leafs D is much bigger than in the past so I imagine they will be as good as anyone

They had a collective 14 points in the first two games.

They currently have 5 goals and 19 points this series. The entire Ottawa team has 6 goals and 18 points.

We're up 3-0.

If you think these four aren't playing well you either aren't watching or trolling (potentially both). It's insane for anyone to complain about any of these guys (or really anyone on the team right now, really).

His advance stats have been good too, so he producing in the real world and the expected world. Nice to have them marry for a change.

I've been burned by Marner (and the whole team really) too many times to use the word "confidence", not yet anyway. The trend has been that Marner's production falls off a cliff after game 86, and the rest of the offence follows him a couple of games after that. He's playing really well right now which is obviously a good sign, but we've seen this movie many times before, game 86 isn't until Saturday and playing Florida is as different from playing Ottawa as night is different from day.

The fanboys are merrily chirping away as they always do from November on until the annual fade happens in the spring, me I'm waiting until Marner and the team takes the next step before heaping praise on them, and beating Ottawa ain't it. Beating Florida, that's the next step and it's a HUGE challenge. I'm not confident, but I'm hopeful, and cautiously optimistic, that's the best I can do at this point. We'll see what happens soon enough.
