let’s just say they sign Marner and somehow McDavid becomes available next summer - could they fit him too with the cap?

Wow! One game in and already matching his totals from last years playoffs. Do the Leafs faithful think that his play has elevated to that plateau, or is it a favourable matchup?

Mitch playing like we need him to. Had a fantastic game tonight. Looked calm, which is good. The 4 nations play earlier in the year may have helped the prepping for this time around

I don't think any of them (the 4) had a great game. I think they did well enough to win against an undisciplined mess of a team with a seive in net. Ottawa handed that one to us.

i am not saying anything was bad and Mitch goal was sweet.

You find a way. McDavid is a game changer, you trade Nylander, Mitch who ever to get McDavid, if you have to.
Unfortunately Nylander is NMC'd up and Mitch is likely re-signing with a full one as well.

There's likely gonna be no push for McDavid.

Nine points from the core fore, all of them drove the play at times, absolutely dog walked the Sens on the power play, two of them even killed penalties, ya, they were just OK.

I think your right, there is next to zero chance McDavid leaves Edmonton. Imagine if McDavid actually left Edmonton for Montreal or Boston..... there would be a symphony of Leaf fans heads exploding across the nation...

I think (dont quote me) but they scored 3 PPG in less than 10 seconds?

Don't even :(

Holy crap, for once I agree with you.
The top 4 were just ok. Of course the PP clicked but the rest of the game they were not "great".
M&M&JT were fine and Nylander was horrific offensively losing / giving up the puck constantly.
The third line was arguably great.
Anyone who thinks that the Leafs played "great" is not watching properly. This is what happens when people only understand points and nothing else.

I'd rather be defending the fact they put up so many points than they fact they played great and lost, lol.

I would much rather that they play great and get some bad luck and lose than play bad with a fortunate PP. It speaks to confidence in the future games.

Prorating Marner to a full season from the start of the 2022 playoffs, Marner is:

GP: 82
Goals: 22
Points: 88
+38

...and he's been unlucky. He and especially his linemates are not finishing prime chances (especially on the PP) and Swayman, Vasy, Bob, Ullmark (4x Vezina, 8x nominees) might have something to do with it.

It's been damn hard to convince people he was actually playing even better than it appeared over this stretch but pretty easy if he has a bunch of points when he hasnt been elite.

I thought actually having an advantage in net for starting goaltending for the first time since Belfour /Lalime would make a difference and so far it has. May this trend continue.

I'm choosing to blindly believe in this guys ability to make things happen this post-season. Just going to pretend game 1 was Marners first playoff game ever, the last 8 years didn't happen lol..

You’re not alone. There’s some Leaf “fans” who would also prefer for Toronto to lose.

In their ideal situation, Marner would play terrible and they would lose. But Marner playing great and the Leafs losing would be their next best outcome.

Sorry about your luck, Marner haters. That must have been a very painful game to watch.
