The Leafs need to get younger or have guys on good contracts that they can trade to acquire younger players that can grow with Minten, Knies, Cowan, and Woll.

Exactly! If we let Mitch walk we don’t need to blow his entire cap savings in one off season. I think the leafs are probably better off using some of it in UFA and keeping 6-8ish million available so they can use assets to make a Debrincat, Kappo K, Chychrun, Laine type trade, where they acquire a young player on a relatively reasonable deal and hope he can be a reclamation project and play him along side whatever young players are left after the trade.

Leafs will sign Marner and the Marner legacy will live on maybe they will retire his number Selke candidate after all

I’m 50/50 even as much as I love Marner as a maple leaf, I could see a scenario where he walks away rom being a Maple Leaf. Especially if say a chance to play with MacKinnon for example comes up? That might be enticing. I think everyone on here only looks at it from the perspective of the team walking away. Mitch deciding to leave is a real possibility too. And if he does, then I won’t like him anymore. I’d feel the same way Islanders fans feel about Tavares.

Nothing is ever 100% but Marner walking isn’t very likely. Legacy is very important to him.

We hope his legacy includes winning.
Leafs fans will always know his individual record.

How many know Mike Gartner's achievements?

At this point, he may have better luck with his legacy with another franchise.
His legacy as a Leaf. Gartner didn’t play here long enough to have a Leaf legacy.

Yeah, that's my point.

A Leafs legacy, rather than a NHL legacy.

Perhaps you have more faith this franchise will win something while he's here?
It would be nice but no Cup didn’t hurt Sittler, Salming, Gilmour, Clark’s legacy.

Ban him from Matthew's line.

He's too good as the alpha.

I think it’s pretty clear every time Matthews goes away Marner is capabable of being an alpha. Willy Styles has that dog in him regardless. But it’s a shame Marner can’t figure out how to play like this when Matthews is around. Imagine having Marner, Matthews and Nylander all firing. Could be special.

So can I sum up this thread for the next 20 hours until the Washington game:

Side one - great game by Mitch
Side two - oh yeah let’s see it in the playoffs

Totally normal and well balanced poster - Marner was terrible did you see that goal that went in off him. He did nothing right and only scored cause his teammates shot it off of him.

None of it really counts because it was only against Detroit.

Seriously though, if you can’t admit he had a good night tonight, then has he ever had a good night?

It’s more
Side 1: good game, didn’t do the fancy stuff that pisses people off, wish every game would be like this
Side 2: Mitch plays every game like this

If Mitch approached every game like this he’d be one of my favourite players and worth every penny of whatever he’s going to ask for July 1st

I’m not saying Mitch does nothing worthy of criticism.
More about just how entrenched some of the posters in here are in their positions.

And maybe a jab at one other poster who if Mitch ever got in and won a fight ( doubly unlikely lol) would say the opposing player won with his brilliant plan of head butting Marner’s knuckles.

More proof that we have been right all along about MM. We are the ones that criticize but don't hate Mitch. We speak the truth and more truth is coming at you by happenstance...

Mitch Marner played/plays better with slower players like JT who are also skilled and willing to go to the net. We have been saying this the whole time and the Mitch Marner superfans have defended status quo ignorantly.

Looks like some fans are just brighter than coaches or coaches that are contractually obliged to take direction from star players.

Now does it carry to the playoffs are we going to square peg the round hole another year and listen to sparky remarks of the Marner appeal to authority crowd?
