Yeah, he's not a consistent 100 point player.
Sure he is. He consistently produces at a 100+ point pace.
Is Nylander a 100 pt winger now too?
Not really. He's never hit a 100 point pace over a season, let alone a more significant sample of games. But it also wouldn't really matter if somebody called him that, because he was close in the one year, and none of this silly label stuff actually matters in the first place. It was just your deflection.

I don't believe Nylander has ever paced out to 100 points and not sure what these other projections you're referring to are.
Pace/projections of players is a tangible thing that would be used by Management and Agents when determining valuations. There is nothing 'fantasy' about it.
Last year he wasn’t on pace to shatter 100?

It does matter until they do it they haven’t done it

Marner has stepped up in Matthews absence. Proud of the guy. Lets hope he keeps this up for the remainder of the season and into the playoffs. A regression to the mean is unacceptable.

I would offer Marner the Nylander contract at this point and be happy with the commitment. However, not a penny more. We need to stack up that increase in cap dollars to build out and improve the team moving forward. If camp Marner declines the deal we look to re-jig the framework of this team. Win/Win.

I would give him the same percentage of the cap which should be low 12 after watching his playoff performance

He is easily good enough to make the move just needs to work on faceoffs. Put someone with him who can take the draw if he can’t do it
Only problem with that is who are you going to put with him it shouldn’t be Nylander who’s left ? Domi he essentially has been the hybrid Center when playing with him and they got him away from him for a reason

Marner yes, Nylander no.

(Nylander was close enough that I'd consider him a 100 point player but saying he paced that would be a lie.)

Yeah, he's not a consistent 100 point player. You even said it in your post.

Is Nylander a 100 pt winger now too? Why stop at 99? Nylander is right there at 98.

***include players that signed 9m+ during the last 3 years***

Take Marners last 3yrs stats and establish point pace average. Playoff and Regular season separate.

Take same stats for forwards making 9m+ for last 3 years, playoff and regular season.

See how it flushes out. My bet his stats won't warrant 11m+. Other players that routinely miss games and get 100+ points are not properly represented.

Not so sure. There's a reason why teams want big centers, there's more responsibility in your own end that smaller guys have more trouble with.

Even Bedard is supposedly (is it official?) getting a look on the wing as it's probably where should have been all along.

In the short term, a few games or so, sure he's probably the best option so it's really a moot point but I just wouldn't have high expectations he'll do great there.

The annoying thing is Leafs management actually sat him for games down the stretch, it wasn't his choice, he was almost all but guaranteed to hit 100 one of those seasons.

As it relates to faceoffs, he did take quite a few his first year, 95 and was 52.6 percent. Since then he hasn't taken many.

he has stepped up since matthews injury, looks like a 2 way stud. Hope this keeps up and we don't put him with Matthews when he comes back

maybe i'm out of touch, but a marner-nylander combo really could work with Marner, not nylander at center. Marner already does a lot of work in the dzone and even this season, whenever he is with domi he plays the C role in the dzone. As for faceoffs, that's where nylander comes in whos a career 50.5% and really good on his strong hand.

We won't because that gives JT and AM plumbers to play with but if everyone played up to expectations a lineup of the below would actually look great IMO. As it stands now, we'd need to replace robertson with an actual NHL calibre player and maybe you could roll with it, I have a bit of faith that domi can break out of his horrid play with matthews's help.

Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Marner - Nylander
Robertson - Tavares - Pacioretty
Lorentz - Kampf - Dewar

It also gives us our C depth back, moreover it also gives us a fresh look. With AM-JT as the 1-2 punch both provided goal scoring and were looked to score goals, but with Marner there it would be a different look for defenders to face, as it would be a playmaking center playing with our 2nd best goal scorer.

It never will be tried because of his frame or something idk, but I've wanted a long term loook at MM-WN for about 2-3 years now.

Nylander:

96 points after 76 games.
2 points in the last 6 games.

Nylander was on pace for 104 points at the 76 game mark.

Earned 2 points in last 6 games, to fall short of 100.
Injury? He didn't start the playoffs because of migraine issues, which started when? Did he play out the season fighting the issue, or did it occur after the last game? Maybe he should have sat out? All speculative.

Little m:

Injury ended his chased for 100+.
He ended the season on a 101 pace, but since he missed 13 games it is impossible to predict what he might have done during those 13 games. Maybe scores better than his season PPG, or maybe he scored less than his season PPG.

Both came up short.

But thrilled to hear that Berube is asking him to read the Volume 2 of the Bandy Papers.

Not sure who this is but he is brilliant. Someone has to put this data together. It's like we will know exactly what he should be worth contractually.

NHL also stole an obvious assist from him near the end of the 99 point season, so really, he did hit 100.
