I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way you do.

I'll cheer for team Canada at the Olympics. I don't care for this tournament though. Other than maybe a short term slight confidence boost I don't really see how any success Marner has here will carry over to his play with the Leafs.

If that's the case then the same could be said for everyone else in the tournament too.
Well not actually. Most players in this tourney are fully realized and have reached expected peaks. So in that way if he does have a great tourney, it may increase the amount of confidence he has. As a lot of Leafs fans believe Marner plays below his expected production.

Tbh I have that exact same opinion about Marner and what he's delivered so far, in the playoffs. I believe theres lots more there, sadly it's the same thing with Matthews who's performance has been worse then Marners in some respect.

Anything that could help lift Marners game should be seen as a good thing for playoff success. Hasn't the Leafs problem been putting the puck in the net, just think if Marner has 2 more goals and Matthews has 3 more goals and the D has 1 measly goal more. The Leafs with their firepower should've knocked that Bruins team off by game 5 or 6.

Confidence is something that can spread like wildfire and that's a good thing

If after 8 years and massive pay cheques these guys don’t have the confidence to move it up a notch for the playoffs they probably don’t have that notch.

Gosh golly if only Berube did that accountability thing
I don’t think the coach can hold this core accountable. That’s a fight the coach won’t win

You keep putting words in my mouth and I really don't appreciate it. I said I didn't love the fit with McDavid's speed and Marner's ability to slow the game down and use his high IQ game. I prefer Marner with others on team Canada, personally. I also said (and it was my main point) that.Marner and Reinhart both need more time to figure out how to play with McDavid because he's such a unique player BUT they will figure it out with more time than just one game together.

What everyone in hear should be doing is shutting up and trusting Cooper who I believe is a top 5 coach if not the best coach in the NHL.
I posted the screenshot of your post...it doesn't get more transparent than that.

Any fancy stat is nice to have but means nothing in hockey. The scoreboard is the only thing that means something. Every year the Leafs lead in all the fancy stats in the playoffs and that’s got them no where.

Cooper is going to pump Mitch’s tires. He can only play positive mind games in this tournament. We know and watched Marners confidence levels go up and down especially in game. Cooper does like Marner as a player and maybe him being the behind all the stars on this team helps feel less pressure. If he turned that puck over at the blueline and the Swedes went down and scored Cooper would be trying to build him back up. Mitch is sensitive we’ve also see near tears many times.

Cooper is going to coach the team to win. If he is not performing, he will have his role and ice time reduced. First game, he played well.

A nice streak or spam.

The coach said "he does it all". Berube says the same thing.
Sweet we should be able to convince him to waive and get a good return. But we will sign him and when the playoff failures rack up and he is tossed out of town I will only halve laughing my ass off at these threads.

Same tired opinionated peeps that loved Wilson, Burke, Trusted Nonis, believed in own rentals. I remember back to those days where I said letting the talent go for nothing will cost a 5 year rebuild. I said the same about this overpaid core after MTL and Columbus as well.

What did MLSE do which the appeal to authority crowd supported? Hang on to expiring contracts because jersey sales, overpay contracts to keep marketable names around. Oh and who can forget, mortgage the future.

Winning a cup does not matter to appeal to authority fans. They haven't ever been right about anything since I got here. Hook line and sinker plan the parade folks. Plan the parade. Keep sniffing the hopium

Usually the people with the fragile confidence need constant reassurance.
Perhaps, but a coach can give/withhold praise when they want to. Ice time and team role are more of an indication of the coaches feelings especially in a short tournament. I doubt with all the praise given to his players in that interview that they suffer from poor confidence.

Sure, if that is what the team wants to do.

Probably not? Why would he?
Your missing the point.

Firstly, the team was a big favorite, yet couldn't hold on to a lead and almost lost the game to a 3rd period comeback. Do you think there was nothing to criticize?

Let's try it this way, do you think Cooper will say anything negative about any Team Canada players during the tournament, especially the ones that don't play for TB? Hint - the correct answer is no.

Criticize by the coach? Why? He controls ice time. I have as much of an idea what the coach will say as you do. Ice time and usage is probably the best criteria for judgement obviously.

Marner being the skilled defensive forward really suited him against Sweda. My guess that will also be his role against the US rather than relying on him to be the offensive catalyst against those bigger players. I can see him having a great game Saturday knocking down a mistake or two and setting up at least one goal.
