While the Leafs nearly got swept by Florida. It was Marner that scored 1 goal and set up the other in a 2-1 Toronto win game #4 and that goal was THE GAME WINNER.

I think the problem was more so that he only recorded a single assist in the 4 losses that had all Leaf fans disappointed.

If the team loses the first round, and Marner opts to walk, I can see both men getting fired. If Marner extends I can see them justifying to stay based on them having a core that at minimum will make the playoffs

Going to be hard for either guy justify to the board how they should stay if they opted not to trade him when they had the chance while also failing to extend him

I guess I’m just caping for Marner today, but the Florida series being labelled as Marner’s worst playoffs is just dumb. He made a really bad turn over in game 3, that cost them. But he was far better against Florida compared to Montreal. Montreal in my opinion was his worst playoff hockey, it’s not even comparable.

He scored two against Florida - one at even strength and one on the PP.

Did you mean GWG? In the game they won Nylander scored the first goal and Marner scored the second, which only became the winning goal when Reinhart scored later.

I'm not sure 'set up' is quite right - after he lost the puck at the blue line the first time, he passed to Bunting in the neutral zone, and Bunting carried the puck into the corner before passing to Nylander in the slot.

We can sign Marner. The Leafs have been selling false hope for over 5 decades now. The people still show up and they make the money.

I can put on a MLSE cap and see how they feel.

I can also put the fan cap as well.

What I really feel is a Cup would boost revenue and merch sales far outweighing what they make just having stars.

Well in terms of absolutes yes we can sign him

In terms of feasability in winning 4 consequtive playoffs round in 1 year with MM at 12-14M and the rest if the gang paid as much as they are, it means no chance in hell for a cup.

The true decade of darkness will start if we run back this core again on absurd LT High AAVs next year after another early exit.

He seemed to briefly wake up in game 4 after playing the worst game he's ever played in the NHL in game 3, after which we were down 3-0 and the season was as good as over.

I thought Marners worst series was Boston last year. The guy showed how scared he was to go into corners. He skated away from the puck with McAvoy.

If you watched him against Minny they hit him a few times and he started waving his stick at guys that came near him and gave out little whacks when he did get hit. Also thru a tantrum after he got hit along the boards.

Didn't learn a thing last year with Nylander. 2 ENG in January. 8 goals in November. 7 goals in Oct, Dec and Jan. ($13+m LOL give him the max). How about they try waiting to see if it is the same old Marner in the playoffs before you handcuff yourself to this core. There is a reason why there is not much noise at the SBA. Fans are tired of the same rerun. It will be worse next year. I guess as long as building is full, nobody gives a damn about fan apathy or winning a SC.

Lmao is anyone surprised that the cap is going up? I remember 2 months ago in a game day thread, I posted cap is probably gonna be 10 mill + what it currently is and got called a liar. As soon as I heard that escrow was paid off early, it was easy to know this was coming. The owners will give in because they know they don’t really have much to stand on for this CBA. This will be one of the easiest CBA’s for the league to negotiate. The players are gonna cash in. Everyone knows they’ve been a little bit undervalued in a general sense for way too long comparatively to other sports.

114 in 3 years is even higher than I anticipated. I expect the leafs to double down on their strategy.

I'm not a medical professional but NHL players often play with broken bones and torn muscles and other significant injuries.

I've also never suffered from migraines.

Given he was comfortable enough to be filmed on Amazon, I'm guessing it's understandable.

Set up another is a bit of a stretch. That one assist was a secondary assist on a fluke play where Bunting tried to cycle the puck along the boards and it inadvertently hit the refs knee and bounced to the front of the net to Nylander who scored.
