The stars are perfectly aligned so that Rantanen joins the Leafs and Marner joins he Avs when they both hit UFA status this summer.

Rantanen can get his $13 mil in Toronto with Matthews still making more and the ceiling for all other Leaf players.

While not an impossible situation, I think unlikely, now with Landeskog coming back and the Avs acquiring Necas.

I don’t see Rantanen coming here

Last I checked Toronto still has their picks well into 2030?

So the cupboards won’t be dry. They will draft other good players. If scouting holds up that’s exactly what you want. These guys ushering the young guys.

Well let’s hope they get Marner on an LNTC. That would help make sure we can get some assets. Pastrnak having one in his new deal gives me hope that Toronto can hold a firm line on that.
MM still needs to sign the deal.
I think this Rantanen deal will sound the alarm on MM that teams do trade their superstar and be more firm on NMC.

Besides, if MM walks into UFA, he should have option beside the Leafs. Would he signs if other options are better?

He was giving the puck away all game. Same Marner we see in the playoffs. Matthews and Mcmann looked good together though.

What exactly did Matthews do tonight to look good? He had one SOG and was invisible. Marner wasn’t great but he and McMann were the only guys making things happen out there. Matthews literally did nothing tonight.

Was expecting your break down of how Marner’s pass tonight was basic and Ryan Reaves could make that play.

Marner not being a scoring threat really hinders him and consequently, the team. Every time he gets the puck, it's either a muffin at the goalie or looking for a pass. Teams know this and take away the passing lanes. That's why it's a risk giving him a raise on his next contract.

Either get multiple scoring threats, or chase down Rantanen to replace Marner if Carolina can't/won't pay him.

I didn't think MM was horrible or anything tonight, but if they expect to win a playoff series or more, he's going to have to be a lot more effective than that in the offensive end.

I actually thought AM was worse tonight. He's usually able to take players on and find open ice; he did very little of any of that on this night.

Also, I think McMann and MM might have some good chemistry and perhaps Berube should explore a combo that includes those two on a line, even when we get players returning.

I still say that Toronto will trade Marner at the deadline.

Even if they're leading the division?

5v5 Last 4 years in the playoffs:

Matthews or Tavares with Marner:
Goals for: 22
Goals Against: 13

Matthews or Tavares with Nylander:
Goals for: 9
Goals Against: 11

Marner away from Matthews/Tavares:
Goals for: 6
Goals Against: 3

Nylander away from Matthews/Tavares:
Goals for: 9
Goals Against: 8

Nylander has, of course, been a difference maker in other areas.

Love the raw numbers. Now add how many minutes to discover the effectiveness. Suddenly Nylander will look like the more efficient and effective player.

Yup, AI language modules a pretty good almost everything is similar to their output.

USA invested 350billion in AI. China just caught up to us for 6million (Deepseek). Reason I am bringing this up? The Leafs are like the USA, overpay for everything and get poor productivity when it counts. 13m+ Marner will be exactly that come the playoffs.
