This proves once and for all that Tom Cruise knows what the people want: to see him running. There might actually be more shots of him running in this than being still.

Seriously, this looks good. Hopefully, it's even better than the last one because it isn't held back by setup and can ramp up the action and stakes.

The title is interesting, but unsurprising, since "Part One" underperformed at the box office. I imagine that it might've done a little better if it had just been titled "Dead Reckoning." Dropping the "Part Two" might help this one a little because people who missed or were lukewarm on the last one might still go see it.

the last MI film of tom cruise career. hes had a good run with the franchise.
Cruise and McQuarrie both said last year that they're developing ideas for further installments, so the initial plan for this to be a send-off seems to have been scrapped. Besides, he's not slowing down yet (literally), so he may have a few more in him. After that, I imagine that Ethan Hunt might take on a leadership role, like Jon Voight's character in the first film, overseeing younger agents. That would allow Cruise to continue playing the character and being hands-on with the franchise in order to keep it up to his high standards. I won't be surprised if he's still appearing in and producing MI films 20 years from now (when he'll be only the age that Harrison Ford is now, and still 10 years younger than Clint Eastwood). This franchise seems to be his passion. I doubt that he'll ever walk away from it.

I'm excited for this! When the first movie came out, I would have never expected it to become an 8 movie juggernaut.
It's turned into one of the more consistently entertaining action franchises and each movie seemed to outdo itself.

I wonder how much this franchise owes to Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. Their theme for the first movie was incredible., at a time when U2 still had a ton of industry cred. The music as the fuse burned in the opening credits of M:I 1 was an incredible hype moment. The theme drew the fans of the original series and the 80s series into a nostalgia-induced fever dream of a movie (And Emanuelle Beart. Hot damn). Just the right amount of instrumental, synth and sfx. 90s, but the great 90s. Honorable mention for 90s theme tunes goes to Moby's 007 theme. Speaking of 007, I think we can blame Mr. Cruise for the skyfall of the Bond franchise.

Cruise is 62; I do think this is it for him as Ethan Hunt.
For the record, Cruise said this last year:
I hope to keep making ‘Mission: Impossible’ films until I’m Harrison Ford’s age. I’ve got 20 years to catch up with him.
He may have to cut back on the running and stunts, perhaps handing those over to younger actors, but it definitely sounds like he's not planning on giving up MI or Ethan Hunt any time soon.

It's kind of an insane realization to me that Harrison Ford is actually 82 years old.

"By one running blog's count, he's run in 44 of his 52 movies, "

Believe it or not, Tom Cruise might actually be fast. Like, really fast. A few years ago, a Quora user attempted to analyze Cruise's speed in several movies and estimated that Cruise hit about 15.3 mph at times, usually while wearing non-running shoes and full pants, no less. Cruise himself said he's been clocked at 17 mph.

Here is a detailed report about his running style.

And some videos

And for sadomasochists:

Years ago I rewatched 'The Firm' with two friends from grad school and one of them decided to go on the record that Cruise is the greatest movie runner of all time. Ever since then I've paid attention, and damn if he isn't right. Dude books it when he runs, none of that movie run shit.

The closest I think there is is Mel Gibson in the first Lethal Weapon at the end.

And now for a running scene I can never forget. I loved Seagal as a kid, and watched this movie with my dad once. He laughed and noted that Seagal 'Runs like a Nancy', and instantly ruined Seagal as a badass in my mind forever (first clip):
