Easily one of the worst periods of time here for interesting discussion was right after the cup and through the next season. You couldn't say anything even close to critical without at least 20 people telling you they won the cup so you're wrong. It was insufferable. No good debate, no good discussion. Just I win the argument because they won a cup, so ****...![]()
Yeah, I remember when we won and in the off-season I was frustrated that Chiarelli went in really cheap with Corvo and Pouliot. I voiced that opinion and was summarily laughed at, I guess people forget how management can affect the mindset of a team. Chiarelli went in and told these guys they were the champs, they believed it and got lazy. When Detroit won, they got Hossa. I really believe that kind of move is what got them to game 7 the next year, those players were motivated by management moves to help them improve.
I think the Boychuk trade was more damaging mentally than losing another talented player (which also hurts).
