Another day, another trade rumor involving Pettersson and Miller. What's disappointing, is that every time Friedmann or some other NHL trade website publishes one of these unsubstantiated reports, the media frenzy begins anew.

And there's absolutely zero comment from the Canucks 'executive booth' to address this speculation. All we've ever heard is the standard bromide: "We'll listen to anyone if there's a chance it will improve our hockey club'.

When the Canucks brain-trust looks back on this season--whether or not they make a major deal involving Miller or Pettersson--surely they'll have to admit that all the rumor-mongering has taken its toll.

We're reaching a critical mass here. Either they get something done, or shut it down. With the team floundering on the ice, it looks like most of these 'blockbusters' should be shelved until the off-season anyway.

Plenty of time to revamp the roster then, without the pressure of the TDL and with more teams in the mix.

Who knows?.....I'm jaded....the last rumor I was aware of was Pettersson to the Sabres.....but then I've almost given up trying to keep track of them all.

I do have a friend who got a call to JR's house once. It's a business, they have privileged information, let's keep our heads. Be frustrated. But keep our heads. All the tidbits that were fed to me were related to the Horvat trade that would take place about a month later, so no scoop here outside of one I'm keeping to myself but would surprise no one.

So finally, Rutherford speaks. Basically he's telling TSN that the rift between Pettersson and Miller is irreparable and one of them has to go.

Wow! So not a question of 'if' but 'when'. It could happen before the TDL, but I'm still guessing the off-season.

The other interesting 'tidbit' is that Rutherford and the Canucks aren't interested in a 'rebuild' as long as Quinn Hughes is in their lineup. So it's basically a 're-tool' because they want Hughes to be a 'forever Canuck'.

I suppose that's encouraging in a way. But will make dealing one of those two guys far more difficult because some top six players and big contracts will likely be changing teams. They can't afford to blow this mega-deal.

Don't know what this mean for the rest of the season, and how it might impact the room. But at least there's finally some clarity moving forward.

I’m in agreement. Build around Hughes. Pettersson and Miller can get us a young top six center and fix our defense. Also gives us more cap space to make sure we get Hughes signed for life.
