Speaking of Crosby and cups...

this whole "you cant win without a big team" is driving me insane tbh. Because it simply has no factual basis.

Heck, those last 2 Crosby cup teams they had THREE forwards in the top 14 forwards over 6'0! (and 10/14 5'11 or smaller)

And 2x of their top 4 Dmen were 5'11!

I mean, pretty much aligns with what you see and the stats.

Size really does not matter too much at fwd... Florida and Washington are really the only "big" fwd groups to win a cup in a decade.

Maybe more to it on D, which makes some sense given reach and how much it helps at times. BUT Penguins, Caps and Avs won with some of the smaller D groups in the NHL still... because they had talent.

I like how the Flyers saw the Blues win the cup and were like that's it that's how we want to do it. Yet here we are with two teams that bottomed out going to another cup final, in the last 10 years only 2 teams won the cup without having their own top 3 pick on the team, and the Flyers even lost to a bottom out team 15 years ago, but they still try to build the team the hard way. What a joke

I didn't watch a second of any of Crosby's Cup celebrations. I watched those series' and in the waning seconds, I turned them off and have avoided footage of them celebrating. I've still never seen Crosby lift the Cup in 2016 or 2017. Hopefully never will. Only saw 2009 on commercials.

Regular season really doesn't seem to be an indicator for the playoffs anymore.

Top 4 teams in the East all out. And top 4 teams in the West will be after tonight.

I have a vague memory of someone good at math correlating long playoff runs with degraded regular season performance the following year. Across many sports. Shorter break and recovery and training periods and all.

So it can stand to reason that with all these actually good teams consistently going deep in the playoffs, it means they aren't showing their true worth in the regular season standings as they have to play catchup on lost training and recovery during the year.

Watch as we examine if this theory holds water and find out it doesn't!

It was a time when it really mattered a lot more. Even in the 2010 run there was a lot of jadedness and disillusion with how the team was starting to clearly do business. The 80s? Dreams and hope still lived. It mattered.

Just wondering if DeBoer is getting canned and he knows it. I don’t see how DeBoer and Oettinger can both be in Dallas next season. The Bruins are sniffing over Dallas AC, Donskov to be their HC. It’s either Sturm or him. No announcement has been made in Boston. They may be waiting to see if Donskov replaces DeBoer. If not, Boston hires him.
