Miscellaneous NHL Discussion CXI: The Last One Went So Long Because I Didn't Know What The Next Number Was

This would be the worst possible outcome. MiniMitch is completely useless in the playoffs, when the men come to play hockey and the Bantam-sized boys become insignificant. They'll give him 8 x $14MM and really tick everyone else off. And Tocchet will love teaching a player with Marner's grit the dump & chase.
I don't think size is the issue. Marner is bigger than Patrick Kane and Martin St Louis and Brad Marchand.

Culture moves rarely go well
I wouldn't call him a culture guy though. He's just a cheap shot artist. But that's only effective when you can back it up on the ice. Domi only gave the Panthers more fuel with his sore loser nonsense.

That's definitely a culture move, though. They were trying to reset on their perceived "soft" culture. It's lazy GMing to think signing one thug makes you hard, and it's also been common for decades

Wouldn't even surprise me if they partially brought him in because of his name.

700%.

It's a thing the Flyers have been guilty of for years, too. The people in charge don't remember that their tough years weren't fueled by a couple goons, it was a top-down mindset from the owner down to the bottom of the lineup; nobody took any shit. And then we spent the 2000s and 2010s watching them trying to shortcut their way to toughness by signing a washed up goon and going "behold! tough culture now!"

It's not size cause even Mathews is getting shit on even though he has like 11 pts. I mean i know scoring goals is cool but helping your team score goals is just as important. They will point at size when it fits their narrative though

I tried to lighten the mood on the Caps board (where I DO post semi frequently, bear in mind) Monday by telling them to look at the bright side: if Washington loses on Thursday, Hershey gets its MVP Ethan Bear- who was called up just before the AHL playoffs to eat nachos during the NHL playoffs- back.

It was not well received. But at least it's reality now.

I hope Carolina wins the Cup at this point..but I really dont enjoy watching their games. Their jerseys are aggresively bland. It hurts to watch.
So much wrong with their road uniforms. The Canes lettering, the red helmets.

Their main logo has always been boring and their alternate logo just looks stupid.
