Miscellaneous NHL Discussion CXI: The Last One Went So Long Because I Didn't Know What The Next Number Was

Unpopular opinion, I would not be upset if Edmonton wins it all. Rooting for the winner of Dallas or Winnipeg but if it isn't one of those Edmonton is the least offensive. If a Canadian team is winning it just better not be Toronto. Carolina wouldn't be terrible but they had a run I already lived through.
I still can't get over the fact that they were shamelessly collecting elite prospects in the draft for over a decade. Nothing against the players, but that franchise doesn't deserve to win with that generation.

Toronto is a little different. At least they were quick and efficient in their tanking. I can kind of respect that.

Lol to each their own. I don't understand how you can hate a team for sucking for so long and getting to pick better players because of it.

Edit:I hate that the Flyers have sucked for so long and only have Michkov to show for it.

Well, there's a difference between simply sucking and sucking + get constantly rewarded for it. It was only when they got the best draft prospect in decades handed to them that they finally couldn't f*** it up anymore. I don't know, I feel that level of incompetence shouldn't be rewarded with a Stanley Cup.

I can't stand the announcers on Sportsnet slurping the Oilers the entire game. Blatant penalties against Edm let go in OT after giving a major when a double minor was a better call. JFC I am starting to hate McDavid.

Well that's the nature of sucking is it affords the team more opportunity to draft better players. Doesn't always mean you get the best team ala Buffalo. How would you prefer it to work?

The media is so insufferable in general. Mouth breather radio. talking about how great mcdavid is but not explaining why. they dont talk about anything remotely interesting. It's a snoozer.

I know the league's goal will always be parity, but what I would do is flip the draft ranking for teams that don't make the playoffs. The team that gets eliminated from playoff contention first gets the highest draft odds, and so on. That way you keep teams competitive and honest.
Won't happen though.

I'd prefer the Panthers-Stars... but if it comes down to it, I wouldn't mind the Leafs.

If they can beat Florida, then it's certainly a special moment for that team.

Eh, it really is just McDavid. I don't think they were intentionally tanking for the rest, I think they just sucked and had difficulty getting guys to sign in Edmonton

Yeah, there are leagues that do that. I think it's the best way to go ideally, but they'd need to address OT points first.

We finished 4th to last but it took a very long time to actually be, officially eliminated. It seems a little unfair to the middling, if not outright terrible, teams that are overperforming their ability.

With OT changes, I think you'd have to add some favor to teams that haven't been the absolute worst but have been a bottom-10/5 team for preceding years.

My buddy, who casually followed hockey most of his life but got really into it over the past year after spending too much time around me, said at the start of the playoffs that he wants to see a Toronto-Edmonton final. I hope you're happy, Newt! This is all your fault!!!

The Leafs aren’t afraid of the Cats. Adding Tanev, OEL and Carlo made the D much more solid.

Bennett is made for the playoffs. He just finds that extra gear in crunch time.

When the Leafs were up by 2 goals in game 3 with a 2-0 series lead, that’s when I felt they would lose the series. It would be par the course

I just can't when it comes to goalies. There is a limit and I think it stops there.

I think that, if you have to interfere with goalies, you're just saying that you can't beat the team in front of you.
I agree. I'm still surprised how Stolarz got such a bad concussion from that though. Didn't even look that bad.
