Miscellaneous NHL Discussion CXI: The Last One Went So Long Because I Didn't Know What The Next Number Was

Do the Leafs have it in them to do that? Berube's teams have never been known for playing dirty.
We’ll see who volunteers as tribute, but if they’re going to let schoolyard rules apply, then they won’t have a choice.

They weren’t really trying to trade for him, it was the draft pick they wanted.

And for all that Sanheim would have made them look like idiots from an on-ice perspective, I'm still not sure it was the wrong idea. Change nothing else about the pick, just give that 10OA to us instead of STL. Add Dvorsky to our prospect pool, now we come out of that draft with Michkov, Dvorsky, Bonk, and Bjarnason. Now we're much worse the following year, by virtue of having no defense worth a damn, so say instead of finishing 12th worst, we finish 7th worst, and we're looking at our choice of Yakemchuk, Parekh, Silayev, Dickinson, and Buium, and we've got Dvorsky so the hole at C isn't so deep that we're thinking we have to sell out for Luchanko. And we're still probably worse this year than we were, so maybe we finish worse than Nashville and end up with 5OA instead of 6.

Yeah, we'd be worse on the ice, but I can't say that's not a brighter future than we have.

The is for making me depressed!

Rex has something in common with us when the playoffs start.

Man, I saw this shit in person. It’s been like a decade since and I’m still traumatized.

Looks like mods will be working OT in the Leafs/Panthers game day and series threads
Good grief. I listen to TSN and Sportsnet radio in my car and this morning all they were doing was whining about Bennett giving Stolarz a little nudge on the way by. There were 50 more vicious hits or attempts in that game. Feel bad for Stolie the Goalie, but I wonder if the slapshot Bennett took that knocked his mask off did some damage earlier. Glad they didn't mercy suspend Bennett like they did to Ekblad.

But a 1st isn’t worth 4 years of a $6.5m AAV non-player

Also, his actually salary over the four years was $30,000,000!
They weren’t committed to keeping him, they were working to flip him when he made it known he wouldn’t play here.

Not a surprise they had trouble finding takers for a 4 x $6.5m cap dump who missed 19 games with injury in 22-23. Thank god the Flyers aren’t retaining 50% on him for two more years.

The way the Leaf fans were talking you would of thought that Bennett came charging in stick up and cross checked him in the head. I get Bennett has a rep but that was hardly anything.

Counterpoint: They reach on 10 and still draft Jett because, ya know, that's what happens.
