Miscellaneous NHL Discussion CXI: The Last One Went So Long Because I Didn't Know What The Next Number Was

The one coach with Flyers ties they SHOULD have had interest in but never have over the years is Jim Montgomery. Must not have kissed Clarkes ass when he was here.

Hellebuyck had no chance on a couple of those mainly the first and 4th goals but the Jets team defense is just atrocious. Letting guys just walk into prime areas with little resistance. But you need a save from your goaltender. His body language is just poor

Thing is, there's so much going wrong for the Jets tonight that they'll probably bounce back in Game 7.

Would love to see an early Blues goal in Game 7 though. That would make things really interesting.

I certainly didn't have Blues forcing game 7 on my bingo card. But other than Hellebuyck,
Schenn doing his best Scott Stevens impersonation when he sidelined Scheifelle may be the deciding factor.

Culture, culture, culture!

Having said that, culture may just be the thing that Leafs are missing, clearly it's not the lack of star players that's been holding them back. So, sure, my first reaction was also ''awmaahgaaaad'', but, well... It's a bit different when a Leafs fan says ''hey this is the culture kinda guy that will really help us in these play-offs'' vs when it's coming from someone Flyers - a franchise that has a gift of MM fallen on their heads from blue sky, but is otherwise of average talent of yesterday's overbaked potato.

He has zero confidence, look at the way he's getting into his butterfly. He's not actually getting into his butterfly he's falling into his own ass. His knees are falling forward and his ass is falling towards his heels. This is not how an NHL goalie plays. This is how someone who thinks a butterfly is supposed to be done does it

Its kind of remarkable to see. He has no idea what his fundamentals are. Normally when you're struggling, as he is, you fall back towards muscle memory and fundamentals. He has seemingly lost all of his.

Agreed fully, if they want to win, they have to do the bold thing and put however the backup is for Game7 /checks notes/ So, it's Comrie. Ofc it will never happen. Blues are gonna keep shooting those kinda-screened wristers and win Game7.

Helle is literally hiding away from the puck, he's collapsing in the net; a mid/far range shot is coming and he's avoiding it! That's nuts for a goalie that is 1m93cm tall and is clearly lack of confidence. As a floorball player (which is not the same as hockey - but - hey - it's similar) If I was a skater in front of him I wouldn't know how to play - they are mostly limiting the shots to quite low danger ones and... those still go in? He doesn't even give away juicy rebounds, where defenders can clear it out, shots just go straight in.

Who else were they looking at for the 65 games he’s injured?

Signing an injury prone goalie actually sounds like best case for a repeat year.
In free agency, he was the top guy

I can smell a goalie trade. Not really sure there’s anyone to acquire with a late 1st. Demko? Maybe they just take on some crap contract like Korpisalo. But I can smell…..something. The 13th worst finish depends on it.
I don’t know. When Briere was asked about the goalies he pivoted to forwards and dmen being responsible too. Made me hopeful he was going to walk it back knowing that’s our best shot at a top pick next year. My current opinion is that they don’t don’t want to be good next year.
