Miscellaneous NHL Discussion CX: That's A Lot.

Ovechkin: 6,847 shots on goal; 13.1% SP
Gretzky 5,088 SOG; 17.6 SP
Ovechkin isn't even in the top 250 all time NHLers for SP. He's strictly a gunner.
He's the all time NHL leader in shots on goal. But when a player has 14 40+ goal seasons it's hard to argue he shouldn't shoot at any opportunity.

I'd shoot 17% in 1982 too. Not only would I blow by the token 4+ guys on every NHL roster who didn't know how to skate, but the goalies didn't bend their knees until the late 80s when Roy finally figured it out.

There are 44 players in the top 250 shooting percentage that spent most of their career in the 2000s, and one of them is Andrew Mangiapane. Auston Matthews doesn't even crack the top 100. This is almost as bad as +/-

My issue with this scoring thing is that some of the media has tried to make it look as if Ovechkin is as good of a player or better than one of the all time greats based solely on goals scored. He always was a shoot first guy as illustrated by his 724 assists compared to Gretzky's 1,963.

I mean, nobody in their right mind would say that Ovechkin is a better all around player than Gretzky. He's not even a better all around player than Crosby.

He's just the best at one aspect of the game, goalscoring.

He will 100% score tomorrow against NYI and I will be watching just to show middle fingers when it happens.

He should of passed up shots to focus on defense.

Kuz doing really well for Kings. 11 points last 9 games. Struggled points wise the first 7 for them but has done well since. Kings fans seem to be really happy with him.

It was a small stop here but I liked him here haha.

Are there that many Caps fans in attendance, or were even the Islanders fans cheering his goal?
