NHL Talk Miscellaneous NHL Discussion CIX: Processing a Tremendous Amount of Insane Information

The question that I posed is why did Buium fall? As I said earlier, I was not asking why the Flyers passed on him. Since Levshunov, Yakemshuk, Parekh, Silayev and Dickinson were all taken ahead of Buium, what was the hole in his game that these clubs saw? Was it talent on the ice or did these clubs not want to deal with KO Sports Agency or was it something else like size. Just wondering.
He fell for the same reason that Risto was a top 10 pick, the Flyers took Morin at 11oa and Provorov went before Rantanen; hockey scouts aren’t all that you think they are.

Most are just ex players that didn’t carve out long NHL careers. They aren’t the smartest bunch. Same with GMs, for every Zito or Tulsky, you get a dozen Brieres.

I have a question. In all seriousness and not in defense of the Flyers passing Buium, why did these other teams let him go by in the draft? I heard one evaluator say before the draft that he felt that Buium should be the first defenseman to go off the board to Chicago. Then he slid down the line. Why did these clubs let him go by them?

For Hawks I can say that it was because our GM and some of our scouts love Levshunov tools and fact he is a RD

Hawks needed a dman like him in system with only Rinzel and Crevier RD in system while being fairly overloaded with young LD (Vlasic, Korchinski, Nolan, Kaiser and Del Mastro)

Hawks scouts were split on Demidov/Levshunov from reports which is party why our GM tried to trade with Jackets to get #4 pick to grab Demidov at draft

why did these other teams let him go by in the draft?
Phew, wrong place to ask pal. I'm surprised we haven't had 9 pages of "this team is so dumb." "fold the franchise" "they have no clue". Everyone just stroking each other off.

renberg asked why other teams didn't draft Buium earlier, not why the Flyers passed on him. Why would the responses be about how bad the Flyers are? Are there actually any posts in response to this question that instead of focusing on bad processes for other teams trash the Flyers? Everything I recall reading was about teams who drafted earlier and skipped Buium.

There are places and times when this team gets (often rightfully) dogpiled on, but this wasn't one of them, either in question or response.

I used to hate ''everything sucks'' mojo here too, genuinely; but after monitoring this team more closely last 1-2 seasons or so I have reached the conclusion this is justified. Please, tell me what recent move can make one optimistic about the thought process of this franchise?

Edit: we lucked into first franchise player since Couts and what are we doing? Torts is punishing him for a risky play here and there and our genius PP specialist moved him to his off side after he had gazillion points from his convenient side early in the season. How does this give any confidence they are not a monkey w a grenade throwing stuff at wall seeing what sticks? What part of giving Deslauriers 4yr contract and NTC makes you think that? Or saying we won't sign gap-fillers ''felt sorry for ya'' vet contracts, then signing EJ?

Just wanted to say that Deadhead once said - about every single one of these things in isolation - that it's nothing too bad, people are overreacting etc. I agree, all these situations in isolation might indeed sound like us complaining about every single thing that doesn't look shinily (is that a word?) good, but when put together - it's stupid move after stupid move; or if we are being generous - maybe a net-neutral move here or there. Freeing cap-space (Frost/Beezer trade) to have more flexibility when hunting that must-have center? Sure, makes sense. But what exactly have PHI done that is non-criticisable lately that would make us believe the said C-hunting/signing will be less dumb or questionable than the moves we have seen thus far?

Yeah, can’t understand how anyone could be negative about the Philadelphia Flyers.

Hmm, except for maybe,
1 playoff series win in soon to be 13 years and counting.
4 soon to be 5 consecutive years missing the playoffs yet without a single blue chip prospect in the system
Replacing Cuck with Danny but leaving basically everyone else from the previous failed regime in place
The head coach constantly berating the only young potential superstar on the team
The pp coach who has overseen the worst pp in the league for multiple years still coaching the pp
Bungling the premium prospect taken 5th overall in 2022 and then trading him for a 4/5 Dman and a 2nd
Passing on a potential future 1D to instead take a probable future middle 6 forward
Trading 2 solid players for a cap dump, a 4th line forward and a 2nd. Oh and a very valuable 7th round pick 3 years from now.

Yeah, I really can’t imagine how anyone could harbor negative thoughts about the Philadelphia Flyers. Shocking.

The lack of blue chip prospects is the worst part in all this. Our best prospect after MM is who? Luchanko!?

Gotta say, I giggled audibly

Yeah, it was 5 years ago the last time the Flyers had a good team. Everything has pretty much sucked since then.
