Pettersson is still excellent. I will never quite understand how talk around him is framed.

Three weeks ago, there are people who wouldn't have traded Andrae for him. One would think eventually these lessons would be learned.

....I am confused. You responded to someone talking about contracts. So your answer here is that you quoted him with something completely different than what he was saying?

I'm mostly confused how they think they're going to play like Carolina. I can't say I'm going to fly like a bird, but if my wings are shredded trash bags on my arms then my claims are mere delusion that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Such are any Flyers claims to wanting to play like Carolina while taking the opposite approach needed.

With a system predicated on constant pressure and speed, Carolina has been a perennial contender under Brind'Amour. Is it a blueprint for the Flyers?

"We're playing basically the same style, checking forward and all that," Tortorella said at morning skate. "I'm not sure how Roddy teaches it, but we want to press, we want to check forward, we want to take chances. I think it looks similar. I don't think we're as fast, I think they're a bit deeper team than we are, but that is going to be the blueprint. As long as I have the opportunity to coach this team, that is going to be the blueprint.

Right, this is pure delusion. "We are basically playing the same style."

They aren't. "That's the blueprint." Ok, Carolina maximizes their options on forechecks. They're flexible. Tortorella is rigid and limiting. He's watching the Hurricanes fly and strapping the shredded bags to his arms, thinking "at last, now we are the same."

Easy. Add speed, depth and forwards who can win board battles in the O-zone and D-men who can win them in the D-zone.

My default rule is that whenever an offensively gifted player is seen as an enigma, I become certain this place isnt the fit for him. For a wide array of reasons. Those are the players they always end up in bloodfeuds with.

Carolina is set up so that they often don't have to engage in board battles, even on dump ins. The flexibility and all.

If you're watching Carolina and coming away with "ah yes just gotta be physically dominant in the boards" then you need to bring your understanding of the game out of line with Clarke and Friends and into line with...well, Carolina.

You and the Flyers are hoping that they emulate a thing neither one understands.

Oh, and none of those things are "easy" for the Flyers as they've repeatedly proven. Carolina has achieved it by emphasizing skill and letting it flow through the roster. The Flyers have failed to get these speedy grinders while spending a decade targeting them specifically. They are refusing to change, too.

Certain offensively gifted players seem to rotate through teams, I wonder why?

Carolina doesn't beat you up like Vegas and Boston.
They outskate, outhustle, and never give you room to breathe.
Different strokes for different folks.

The Flyers can say they want to be coached like anyone they want, it's clear through their actions and their words that they are trying to emulate St. Louis in their roster construction.
