Keep in mind this is a team the Flyers are trying to emulate.

No, Carolina is the team they're trying to emulate.
Fast, deep and aggressive.

St Louis has the same problem as Boston and a few other teams, once you win it, it's tempting to roll it back year after year - then you wake up one year and find out you're old, slow and expensive.

A better question is how the Caps turned it around, they looked like they were ready to free fall.
Some of it is good goalie play -0.43 less goals than expected per game.
Not sure they can sustain this (and they're tight against the Cap) but certaintly a surprise team.

A lot was smart moves:
7/24/22 D Strome (27) 5yr/$5M AVV
6/27/24 Mangiapane (29) for 2025 2nd
6/29/24 Dubois (26) for Kuemper G
7/1/24 Raddysh (26) 1yr/$1M
7/1/24 Duhamie (27) 2yr/$1.85M
McMichael (24) #25-2021
Protas (24) #91-2019
Lapierre #22-2020
Miroshnichenko #202-2022
Now they're still carrying Ovechkin (39), Wilson (30), Eller (35), Dowd (34),
with Backstrom and Milano on LTIR ($13M).

2/28/23 Sandin (24) and 1st rd pick for Erik Gustaffson [8yr/$4.6M salary dump]
7/4/23 Fehervary (25) 3yr/$2.7M
7/1/24 Chychrun (26) for 2026 3rd and Nick Jensen
7/1/24 Roy (29) 6yr/$5.75M
Along with Carlson (35) and TVR (33)

6/23/24 Thompson (27) G for 2024 3rd, 2025 3rd

Definitely feels like Chris Drury could panic. It’s hard to do what he wants to do and he’s hoping James Dolan stays asleep. Him waking up one day is how he got that job.

It sounds to me like they have a problem in the room, and for the low, low price of one (1) 2025 #1st and Filip Chytil, I'm prepared to offer them Scott Laughton and Erik Johnson to serve as a stabilizing presence.

They have publicly cited the Blues and it’s been reliably reported.

The Sci-Fi/Fantasy thread is here.

There is nothing at the amateur scouting, professional scouting, or asset management levels that I see being remotely similar between the Canes and Flyers.

If they were interested in what the Canes are doing, they would have hired Tulsky instead of Briere. Honestly, I'm still finding it hard to nail down what the plan is for the Flyers is going forward.
